Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the cooling system (petcock bottom of radiator)
Follow the top radiator hose back to where it connects to the engine.
The part with the two bolts in it that the hose connects to is the thermostat housing.
You may have to remove the hose in order to remove the housing.
When you have removed the housing, note the position of the thermostat before you remove it.
When installing, use new gasket, etc.
(you might be able to get away with not removing the radiator hose, but it is recommended)
Be prepared for a bit of spillage when you remove the housing.
Hope this, being a bit late, helps.

Where is the thermostat located on the 1998 accord ex 4cyl? I have noticed the temp gauge rising repidly in only a 1-3 mile drive, I thought the thermostat may not be opening and wanted to change it.

Follow the lower radiator hose to the engine. The place where the hose mates the engine is the thermostat housing, and of course, the thermostat is inside it. Another reason for rapid temperature increase is that the electric radiator fans are not turning on when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

Top radiator hose is HOT, radiator is steaming

have u replaced the radiator and hoses? Thermostat could also be stuck open. Water pump could also be your issue. with motor cool and of remove radiator cap(cap may be bad as well) top-off fluid and start car check for fluid flow with flashlight. Water pumps typically leak from what is called a weep hole when the shaft seal fails. Yours will be located under the timing cover (drivers side) running of the timing belt.
Hit me up after u have check on these.

To install thermostat in honda accord lx 1992

Hi there ... I'm not sure if you've pulled the old thermostat out yet. If you haven't pulled it out look at the way it's in. Normally the but end is towards the engine. (**** end is the end with the spring in it)

Where & how to install thermostat in honda accord ex 1992

you need to follow the upper hose that lead from the radiator to the engine, there is two bolt that connect the thermostat housing to the block loosen the bolt using a 10 mm socket with ra-chet. Make sure that the engine is cool off before attempt to do this you will lose coolant but that's ok you will add the coolant when you finish replacing the thermostat. start the engine with the radiator cap off then add coolant slowly and cap it, then fill the reservoir up.

note the way you remove the thermostat that's the same way you will put the new one so pay attention when you remove the old one good luck.
