You should never cut the stock harness. They make adapters for $10 so you don't have too. If you haven't cut the harness, don't cut it.

If you already cut it... SHAME ON YOU. But here are some color codes.

I highly recommend reattaching the stock harness, soldering the wires together, and getting an adapter.

I have enclosed two wiring diagrams, one is for base radio and the other is for premium radio.the way to know which one you have is that the base radio does not a have an amp connected to it. you will see it in the wiring diagram.hope this is helpful. good day.3_9_2012_5_30_46_pm.gif3_9_2012_5_30_58_pm.gif

All i want to know is what each wire does and for how i would install a radio.

when installing an aftermarket radio, you will have a wiring harness with the new radio. you will have to buy seperate an adapter harness for the vehicle you are putting the new radio in. these wires are usually labled. Just match the colors with colors. watch for solid colors and the wires with stripes on them. The solid ones are positive and the one with stripes are grounds. Its pretty self explanitory once you start doing it

Someone had cut the factory plug off the stereo wiring and now im having a hard time finding another one. any suggestions?

Hi:
I had the same problem on my car I bought, and in your case, since a lot of Ford products use the same radio harnesses, you can probably find some junkyard with a really totaled out Ford that will let you cut the radio harness out of it for $5 or so. ( That is what I did, and carefully stripped and spliced the donor harness onto my car. I used solder and heat shrink tubing, but you could use crimp on automotive splices,no problem.

The alternate solution is to buy an aftermarket stereo , and use the harness they supply. Of course, you still have to properly connect it to your existing wires, so you need a diagram for that. You can usually upgrade later if you stay with the same brand of stereo too.

Ok my explorer was broken into and they stole my cd player but cut my factory wiring harness off so i need help hooking up another cd player to the factory wires without the plug

I suggest you go to a junk yard find another 2000 Explorer. Cut the radio wires and plug out of that truck. Then just match up the colors and attach that plug to your truck. I would suggest soldering the wires together to avoid problems down the line. Good Luck!

Radio wiring different than everywhere on the web says it is.

the power amp is usually under the back seat.your stereo sounds like the 2000 premium model.take the radio out and go to ford and they will match it up to get you the right info for an aftermarket harness.the ford service manual has the pin out,and you can wire it all from that data.

Where can I get a speaker wiring chart for 97 Ford Explorer

Perhaps there was another system installed at another time and someone cut the wires within the system to make that particular stereo system work. Inspect the wires all the way from the decks wiring harness to the speakers, they could be cut and you might be able to splice the wires and reconnect them or you may have to run seperate speaker wire for each speaker to resolve this issue.

Short ?

the wiring for the dome light, door ajar and radio is most likely crossed with the brake light wires causeing it to turn off power or on when pressing the brakes giving electricity to the lights and then it could be cutting off the power to the radio
