Question about 1992 Eagle Talon

1 Answer

I just bought a 1992 eagle talon and one of the belts is making a high pitched squeeking sometimes until the car warms up or if I cycle the gears a few times. THe belt looks fine, no frays or anything. (Automatic)Also until the car warms up it jumps when going from 1st to second. Also if I shift bewtween Drive and Reverse or neutral it jumps. Also when I shut it off the ignition the hole car kind of jerks. Theres no strange moises, the engine runs smooth and at speed it drives fine. THeres also no strange noises from the transmission. My moms hyundai elantra behaved very similar. We had to replace the serpentine belt and motor mount, also one of the bolts had come off that held the engine. But I do not see any movement in the engine when I reve it up. I am bit confused and dont want to start ripping thigs out until I have an idea of what could be wrong.

As for the high pitched squeeking. Just replace the serpentine belt. Just because you don't notice any crack or no frays, does not mean that the belt is good. My car was doing the same thing and when I replaced the belt everything was fine.

In regards to jumping when shifting. First take a look at the RPM's. If the RPM's are high when shifting from Drive to Reverse this will cause the jumping. If the RPM's are around 750 to 850 then you might have to get the transmission checked out.

Hopfully this will get you going in the right direction. Good luck...

Broken bottom alternator belt

Check those pulleys that the Alternator belt runs on and make sure that they are ok. Make sure that oil is NOT getting on this belt (form oil leaks ) that's one of the most common reasons for belts to break that often. Good Luck
