Having trouble getting vehicle in park , after putting in reverse or drive im having trouble getting it to go into park. Do i need a new shift cable or is there a adjustment on the cable

Shift cable might have melted and have hard spot. Block wheels and put vehicle into neutral. Have someone else operate shifter to see if cable is the problem.

It could be that the shifter linkage is not letting the transmission fully engage into park. Or the parking pawl inside the transmission is damaged.
