I have a 2004 GMC Sierra extended cab. When I put gas in the fuel tank I have to put it in very slowly or it will blow it back out. It acts like the air vent is plugged. Is there a reset switch on this truck. I have been told there is in case of an accident but can't find it

No switch as far as I know, but don't fill up with the engine running (if you do that) likely you have a purge/vent valve that is hanging up in the evap system.

The reset switch is not the answer...

Each truck has a vapor recovery unit that collects the gasoline vapors from the tank and then, the next time the car is started, sends them to the engine, where they're combusted. Your vapor recovery system isn't working. One possibility is that one of the rubber hoses is blocked or collapsed.

The other possibility is that one of the valves involved in the refueling process (the refueling control valve, the refueling EVAP vapor-cut valve or the one-way fuel valve) is not working.

Wheres the fuel filter located at

There are two. One is a 'sock' on the end of the fuel pump (in the tank) the other is a 'can' strapped to the frame. On my extended cab 97, it's just behind the driver's door inside the 'C' of the frame. You'll need line nut wrenches, and a ~5/8" socket... and put your cigarette out before you crack the lines loose from the filter. :-)

Where is the fuel filter located in a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500?

Under the truck, on drivers side, between fuel tank and engine compartment, sort of under where the drives sit, against the frame.

Is the fuel filter for the 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab in the gas tank?

You may be lucky and the fuel filter is still on the inside frame rail under the drivers door. 2004 was the change off year and 2005 was defiantly the no serviceable fuel filter.
You can go to the dealer with your vin number and they can look up in there system if you have the external fuel filter, or you can just look for it on the inside of your frame rail.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra extended cab Z71 and my fuel gauge fluctuates. It takes it a while to register it has fuel and then it will just drop to empty then bounce back up. I was wondering what could cause...

The fuel sender is built on to the fuel pump. This happens sometimes if you run the tank low alot Try keeping the truck above 1/2 tank see if this helps otherwise you might need a new fuel pump
