THE FRONT BYAS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYS ON THE DASH.THIS BRAKE SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE POWER ASSIST FROM THE POWER STEERING, SO I DON'T FOLLOW WHERE THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKES.A NEW LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND THE FRONT HAS BEEN BLEEDED.I DON'T KNOW IF BLEEDING PROCEDURE WAS INCORRECT AND MADE THESE LIGHTS COME AND STAY ON

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE POWER STEERING HAS TO DO WITH BLEEDING THE BRAKES

  • jeffmiller90 Oct 05, 2009

I still would like the correct procedure for bleeding the brakes on this vehicle. Is there something I am missing on this?

Two person job. first locate bleeders on the back of the wheels.loosen them first but DONT BREAK THEM.

Tighten them back up then have someone else pump brake peddle until stiff and then hold. then loosen bleeder to let air out.
Repeat until only fluid comes out. check fluid level in master cylinder then repeat for each wheel. Start with rear passenger side then rear driver front passenger the front driver. Check fluid level after each wheel.

Top up the oil and pump the brake pedal and watch the oil level going down while you unscrew each tyre bleeding valve..you need 2 people to complete this task.Remember not to allow the oil to lower down in the plastic container.

Hi, BLEEDINGThe hydraulic booster is generally self-bleeding, this procedure will normally bleed the air from the booster. Normal driving and operation of the unit will remove any remaining trapped air. Fill power steering pump reservoir. Disconnect fuel shutdown relay and crank the engine for several seconds, Refer to Fuel System for relay location and WARNING. Check fluid level and add if necessary. Connect fuel shutdown relay and start the engine. Turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock twice. Stop the engine and discharge the accumulator by depressing the brake pedal 5 times. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock twice. Turn off the engine and check fluid level and add if necessary. NOTE: If fluid foaming occurs, wait for foam to dissipate and repeat steps 7 and 8. NOTE: Inspect o-rings on the pressure line fittings to insure they are in good condition before installation. Replace o-rings if necessary. Install the return hose to the booster. Bleed base brake system, Fill the power steering pump with fluid, ( CAUTION: MOPAR (MS-9602) ATF+4 is to be used in the power steering system. No other power steering or automatic transmission fluid is to be used in the system. Damage may result to the power steering pump and system if any other fluid is used, and do not overfill Let me know, if that would fix the issue. Note - The above information is correct as me. Kindly confirm the same before ACCEPTING the solution. Hope i helped you. Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I have a 98 dodge Durango and the brakes are horrible! when going to stop it goes almost all the way to the floor and once you stop you can feel that the brakes just seem to "release" and even when holding...

if bleeding the brakes doesn,t help then it is the vacuum buster pump which apples and holds pressure to the brake cylinders, check pad or brake shoe wear

I have spongy brakes on my 2001 durango and when you press the brake pedal it starts to brake then grabs . how do i fix

first try bleeding the system by one person pumping and holding the pedal down ,while pedal is depressed open the bleeding nipple at the wheel to let air ,fluid out and repaet same procedure 2 to three times on all 4 wheels ,remember to top up brake fluid while doing so <if no success rather get a qualified person to inspect the brakes as it could be as simple as adjustment or as serious as master cylinder failure which can be critical safety component ,GOOD LUCK

The brake system on a 2002 dodge durango has no pressure

Do you actually see brake fluid coming from the bleeders? Check for a broken brake line. If no fluid is being lost and the peddle has proper pressure, then the brake booster has failed. If their is no pressure at all, then the master cylinder has failed. Replace accordingly.

I have a 2007 dodge 1500 mega cab 4x4, my break pedal goes down to far when i step on the breaks. I installed new rotors and pads it still goes down pass excellerator pedal

You need to bleed your brakes, check for air in the lines making sure that you keep the brake reservoir full. Check for leaks from your master cylinder also.

1998 dodge durango how to adjust brake metering block to give more fluid to back brakes?

Odds are that your brake proportioning valve is fine, you should try bleeding the brakes first starting with the farthest wheel away from the brake booster ( passenger rear ) and work your way to the nearest ( driver front). Make sure you have plenty of fluid and that your brakes are in good shape before hand.
