Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Engine shut down while driving

My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited wouldn't start one morning. MY father cleaned the battery terminals and it started working. Two days later, the engine shut off while I was driving it. When I restarted it it made a clicking sound and wouldn't start. A few minutes later, I started the car again and it ran without a prob. Over the last few weeks, I noticed that my car would slow down even when pressing on the gas. It would give a **** and then run fine. What could be wrong?

Check the connections at the other end of the cables to make sure they are clean and tight as well. Make sure body grounds are good as well. Problem may or may not be related, but a code check may tell you more.

Sounds like you have a bad alternator. Not recirculating juice back to the battery.

2000 grand jeep cherokee limited 4.7 liter, v8, at first wouldn't start rplaced battery because dead and then replaced starter. ran ok for a couple days. last night started it and hard time with it...

Hi
Pop into to your local garage and have a diagnostic test carried out.
Listen to the advise given. It may save you lots of money, especially if you start the "guessing" game.
It does sound like a part may be blocked or failed though, but the sytem needs to be tested thoroughly first.
Good luck

Having trouble with 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited not starting when the key is turned. It clicks but does not fire. It takes several tries to get the engine to start.

Three items to check there. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and secure, check the starter relay (quick way is to steal another in the power center and switch them). Also check the engine grounds and that the starter solenoid is engaging. If you have power at the small terminal on the starter when the key is turned to start, good bet the starter is bad.

Starter...if the starter is old, it is getting heat soaked. Replace the solenoid.

Having trouble keeping my 98 jeep grand cherokee running

i recommend cleaning the throttle plates. they are located unter the intake hose form the engine to the air filter housing. if you open them with the engine not runniong you will see they will be covered in carbon. use a good carb cleaner and a rag to wipe them clean
