Locate the sensor ont he side wall of the head. Disconnect the wiring harness and then use a wrench to loosen the sensor. Pull the sensor away from the head and discard. Installation is the reverse. Check these diagrams.

I have a 2005 New Jetta 2.5 and I am trying to locate the knock sensor location

A knock sensor is often located bolted on the center of the wall of the cylinder block Find the electric harness above the thermostat (usually located near the area where the radiator hoses meet the engine). It is usually a gray/black connector with two wires and a red cap.

2. Unplug this connector and fix a voltmeter that can measure more than 10 M ohms to the male connector.

3. Check the foremost terminal and ground the negative point out.

4. Check the voltmeter for continuity after turning the vehicle on. If there is a problem with this, you will need to replace the knock sensor.

5. Also, if your vehicle has run over 100,000 miles without replacing the knock sensor, it is best to get it changed.

6. You will also need to check for frayed wires to confirm a faulty sensor.

7. Another way to test the knock sensor is by striking the intake manifold above the knock sensor with a wrench, while the engine is running. Be careful not to strike the sensor. Hitting the intake manifold should result in a small change in the sound of the engine. If this does not occur your knock sensor is probably dead.

Did you change the correct knock sensor? You may have other problems that the knock sensor is detecting, which means the knock sensor is operating correctly. Knock is usually caused by detonation (cylinder firing before intended). There are many reasons this can happen. A common one, is the cylinder is running too lean.

How to change knock sensor on 2004 Malibu v6

Why do you need to change the knock sensor? Just because there is a code for it doesn't mean it's bad. Does the vehicle run bad? Tune up or fuel filter can cause the code to set for the knock sensor. It listens for knocking so the pcm can shut the car down. Those very rarely go bad unless it has been soaking in coolant leak.

Need to know how to install knock sensors and where they are need diagram. 2005 expedition 5.4 engine

Hello adamjerkins,

It is somewhat complicated to change the knock sensors. There are two of them and they are located under the intake manifold. The intake manifold must be removed. I would recommend tha you replace both while you have the engine apart.

What leads you to believe the knock sensors are bad, I've seen few bad knock sensors? The knock sensor issues more times than not have been caused by other problems.

After you remove the intake manifold disconnect the knock sensor connectors. Remove the bolts and the two knock sensors then replace with new knock sensors tighten the bolts to 15 foot pounds. Reinstall manifold. The total job for an experienced mechanic with tools is about 5 hours. Not a good job for a beginner.

Service engine light

Your not going to here any knock from the engine the knock sensor detects detonation which is not detectable with the human ear. if you want to test the knock sensor you can tap the side of the block the engine should stumble for a couple of seconds if it does not change then the way the engine runs then the knock sensor is defective or hase buildup iside the engine and you will need to do a top engine clean. if you want instructions on how to do this just post another post to this reply This happens on engines that ave high mileage or acar that runs low grade like regular.

You didn't list your engine size so please pick the applicable to your motor size:

Removal & Installation 2.8L & 2.9L Engines To Remove:
  1. Lift the vehicle high enough to gain access to the knock sensor (KS) through the left front wheelhouse.
  2. Remove the left front wheel and wheelhouse liner.
Knock sensor (KS) (A), Engine harness (B), Knock sensor (KS) connector (C)

Knock sensor code, p0330

The knock sensors either work or they don't. When they do not, the light comes on. All that a knock senor is is a piezo crystal that vibrates at the frequency that is comparable to engine "knock", and sends that yes/no signal to the ECU. There are 2 knock sensors, and both are bolted to each side of the engine interior walls, under each cylinder head. You have to remove both of the intake manifolds to access the knock sensors and their wiring.
Price to pay? My flat rate book suggests 3.7 hrs to change both. 3.7 hrs times your local labour rate, plus the price of the 2 sensors and/or wiring, and the price for the gaskets for the upper & lower manifolds. Depending on your location, you could quickly spend over $500.00.
