Question about 2003 Land Rover Freelander

Open Question

New clutch fitted in 2003 Freelander TD4. Garage now telling us only got half a clutch and the cylinder need replacing at £120 plus £410 already for the clutch replacement. The pedal was fine when we took it into the garage. Clutch was only slipping in high gears now and again. Had it replaced because we tow a caravan. Please help. Thanks

at a guess your garage may be at fault ,the freelander clutch master and slave cylinder are a sealed all in one unit that cannot be bled. if the push rod came out of the slave cylinder it would create an air bubble that would not be able to be bled from system (no bleed nipple),check for fresh clean fluid under slave rubber seal , that would indicate that the clutch change went wrong, having a slave cylinder break on me i have expierenced half peddle. now to try and save money on a new cylinders you might want to reverse bleed by placing slave in tank of fluid and using a mighty vac to syfone fluid back into the master cylinder installing the push rod to expel excess fluid whilst still in tank of fluid, use a long zip tie to hold pushrod arm to body of cylinder so you dont have to repeat process, tie can be cut off when cylinder is back on car.

SOURCE: freelander td4 power loss at 70mph

yeah, don't drive so fast!!!!...seriously i would do what has to be done anyway to start. change fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires. these have to be done at some point if they haven't been.. if that solves your problem, if not look at fuel pump, injectors.u didn't say if it used to go faster, maybe there is a limiter.

Why do I have to bleed the clutch every week no fluid lose

Air is replacing the fluid, so seeming as if there is no fluid loss. It is escaping someplace not obvious, such as inside the bell housing along the actuator rod.

If you needed a new clutch in the first place, it would be a good investment to put in an overhaul kit on both master and slave cylinder, or, if you find corrosion, replace both.

Freelander TD4 diesel has a chain (mega bucks), L series diesel (pre BMW engine) has a belt (plus a small belt for the injection pump). the K series 1,8 petrol and KV6, 2.5L also have belt's.

Have freelander td4 03 plate, continuous problem with clutch. had new clutch , slave cylinder and master 2 months ago, all fine till a month ago lost pedal completely , had new master fittted problem fixed...

Definitely a hydraulic issue. Iknow you said they were both changed, but its usually the master & slave assembly that go faulty on the Freelander. Both parts come filled with fluid and pre-bled and only require fitting, no bleeding. Check with garage to make sure they did not split / bleed them.
