Question about 2006 Volkswagen Rabbit

1 Answer

Every time I turn on my air conditioning a powerful stink is emitted from the vents. It's really bad now - it used to be just the first couple minutes, and now it's for a solid 10 minutes every time. It smells moldy.

Get the cores cleaned and be sure that the drain is clear and flowing.

One thing to do is turn off AC and still blow air through it, on high, for 2 or 3 minutes at shutdown. What you are trying to do is dry the evaporator of condensation. MUCH less smell on next power on of AC.

AC Airflow is greatly restricted in all vents

Based on your description I would say you have a blend door that is sticking or the control motor is going bad. The blend doors control air flow.

How do you clean stink from fresh air

This is a common problem with air conditioned vehicles. The solution is to start your truck, set the fan speed on high, and spray Lysol or some equivalent mold and crud killer into the high level air intake at the base of the windshield. Shut off the engine and allow time for the stuff to work then enjoy the result. You may have to repeat the treatment a few times to get results and you should make it a periodic maintenance routine especially during the air conditioning season.

Where is cabin ac filter located

If the air conditioner emits a foul odor into the cabin it is probably the drain tube on the evaporator core is clogged. What happens is the clog causes mildew to start growing and then it blows the stink right into the car. And to answer your question the cabin air filter location all depends on the year make and model of the car.

Smoke is coming out of ac vents.

I had something similar and right afterward the engine started smoking really bad. It turned out to be a bad air compressor. Immediate solution was to turn off the air, turn off the engine, let it sit a little. Then don't run the air. You can either fix the compressor or disconnect the belt if that is what it is and it will be good till you get around to messing with it. That is only one of several things it could be. I would take a really good look at all the wiring while it is running and check out that air conditioning.

2004 Ford Crown Victoria no air flow through main air vents

Chances are the electronic/digital HVAC control unit is bad. This same problem happened to me and I had to replace the entire unit. The dealer wanted to charge $800 for just the part! After I freaked out on them, they found a used one for less than half. Sorry, but there's no easy fix here.
