Pull the trans dipstick and see if it is full. if it is smell the fluid does it smell built ? is it red or brown? if it is not on the dipstick then add some and you maybe okay. you need to have your trans rebuilt.good luck

What is it when in reverse the automatic transmission on a 1999 Camaro grinds?

Reverse is not "synchronized" forward gears are, so it does make some noise, try shifting to 2nd before engaging reverse to slow gear rotation and limit gear clash or grind.

When I try to shift from park to drive it gets tight at reverse as if doesn't want go but once out of reverse it shift normally until shifting back to park when I have to go threw reverse then it tightens...

Is it only when you go from park to reverse? Or is it just as bad going from neutral to reverse? I've noticed on mine that it's often tight if I park on even a slight slope. If it only happens when going from park to reverse, try this. Hold your foot on the brake, and put the car in drive. Keeping constant pressure on the brake, go back to park, then back into drive. Did you feel the stiffness when you had your foot on the brake?

I have a 1995 chevy camaro. when i shift in reverse it changes out and goes into reverse but when i hit the gas petal to back up the car goes nowhere.

check trans fluid when the engine is running and at normal operating temp. if it shifts and drived normally in forward, it may be time to go to the tranny shop.

94 Camaro V6 transmission in reverse on all shifter settings

check to see if your shift cable is stretched or broken, also look on the transmission itself to make sure that the lever where the cable attaches to is not bent. also you can check under the shifter itself and make sure the linkage there is all ok. it sounds like your shifter cable is the cause for your problem.

if the cable is ok and you can see the shift lever move on the transmission than the next likely cause would be the valve body in the transmission.

Tach is short for tachometer and is a device that tells you the speed of the engine, generally in RPM X 1000. A typical speed for a 6 cylinder engine is about 600 to 1000 for idle in Park/Neutral, and 500-800 in Drive or Reverse. This was if you have this on your dash, and can get me some numbers, I can better assist you...accordianman
