The 89 truck uses a cable it is not a magnetic pick up so there is an inner and ottter cable and you can buy from any parts store. inner cable runs 10 dollars a fitted inner and outter cable is about 425.00 and is the way I would go.

How do i replace a starter on a 2001 gmc jimmy

ok jack the trk on the driver side. block the truck so it doesn't fall on you. climb under the trk behind the passenger tire font. look up and you will see the starter u will need a 5/8 socket to remove the starter. you will also need i believe it 5/16 wrench and a 11/16 wrench to re move the wires .also i didn't mention un hook the positive cable from the battery. when you pull the starter out don't loose the shims that come out. the two 5/8 bolts are what hold them in you need them when installing the new starter . once you have the new starter .do every thing in reverse .i hope this helps bob

I have a 1988 lebaron 2 door coup 2.5 ltr and the speedometer and odometer don't work but the tachometer and gas gauge work. i think it might be the speedo cable but i would like someone to point me in the...

The first thing to do would be to remove the cable at the trany and spin the inner part of the cable and see if speedometer moves a little, if it moves then you will know the cable is good and so is the speedometer and the problem is the gear in the trany, remove the small housing that the cable screws into amnd there you will see a gear, remove the clip and slide the gear off and replace it with a new one, you should be able to seee the gear teeth worn out,but is the speedo doesnt move when you turn the cable then the cabl may be bad, slide cable out by pulling it, and look for thee broken end. hope this helps.

My temperature gauge and my fuel gauge arent working and the fuse is is good .... also how hard is it to replace the speedometer cable ?

On replacing the speedometer cable, on a scale of 1 to 10, probably 3 or 4.
Hooking to the transmission, " baby play ", connecting the other end to the speedometer, well that represents the 4.

1987 Volkswagen Golf - speedometer problem

Well I would verify the trany speed gear is "ate up" first, theres only one 10mm bolt that holds it in place, sure the area around the speedo cable is very CLEAN before removing it any dirt in there would make things bad to say the least. If you pull the cable out the gear is attached to the cable if it looks good then put it back together and remove your cluster (speedo and other gauges inside) I suggest you pick up a repair manual at a big auto store on MK1-MK2 vdubs (82-92) to explain how to remove speedo cable from back of cluster its kinda of tricky getting your fingers back there and pressing it together to get it to release. Once out drive the car and see if that cable is turning from the inside if it is then its your speedo gauge that is faulty. Grab a cluster from a scrap yard, if that cable is NOT turning then the gearing inside the trany is messed up which would mean taking the trany apart to repair it. If that was the case you would be cheaper to replace the whole trany with a used one. Good luck
