There is no wat yo by-pass the anti theft system on these vehicles. If you just had a key cut for it, it may need to be programed, however this being a little bit of a problem with the malibu, most likely the ignition switch & housing has quit reading the key and does not recognize it, thus causing the problem. Another poss problem is if you are still using the same old key that have used forever, its possible that the key is getting so worn form going in and out the the ignition switch that the switch & housing does not recognize it anymore and you may just have to get a new key cut for it and have it programed. Hoped this helps.

How do i turn off the security light on my vehicle? It runs and all like normal with nothing happening.

Key fob or not, that vehicle has an antitheft system on it. I'm sure if you look at your key there is a PK3 stamped in it. Or a plus sign (+) or two circles or something. oo. The security light is due to the failing of this system Nothing else. It's not the car alarm or weird ideas people get about windows being down or anything like that. It is solely there to tell you that the security is failing. Eventually that car will stop starting all together. You will need to get that fixed before it strands you somewhere. It is also possible to bypass if you have no fears of auto theft. Will save ya $500 or more just to bypass it.

My antitheft is in theft mode and won't let the car start.how do i know if the antitjeft device is keeping it from starting?can i bypass the antitheft device?

If the red light on dash is on constantly, it's in theft mode.if nothing has been replaced, maybe you got a new key, you'll need 2 keys that are programmed to the car...if you do have 2 keys and want to add another, simply put in first programmed key turn on until light goes out, do the same with second programmed key and then put in the new key and wait for light to go out.this will program new key. If you don't have 2 programmed keys, it has to be done with computer at dea

Flashing security light, engine won't start

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

Chevy Malibu LS (V6-3.1 L) won't start or starts up and IMMEDIATELY dies, how can I diagnose the problem?

Your car starts and dies due to the failing antitheft system. Your vehicle is not receiving the "fuel enable" signal that it needs to keep running. So the injectors get turned to off to prevent theft. You will need to diagnose which part of the antitheft system is failing. Or bypass the entire security system. This link will help you understand the problem, and depending on the year of your vehicle, possibly a good bypass solution.

2000 Chevy Impala just had a used engine installed. Battery is brand new, but the car will not even turn over when you try and start the car. THe radio lights and all the electrical components work fine....

These cars and many many many other gm cars and trucks are equipped which an antitheft feature. Many times on engines swaps and ignition changes, this system gets interrupted because the computer is not seeing the proper signal from the original equipment. Try to start the car, when it doesn't turn over, leave the key in the "on" position. Look for a light near your gauges that says "security" or "antitheft". If you see this indicator light, then the problem is definitely the antitheft system. Fixing it is rather expensive. Bypassing it is relatively cheap. This link explains everything you need to know.

Possible antitheft problem. When the antitheft fails, you get a light on the dash that says SECURITY, and the starter gets turned off. This link explains.

My 2003 Tahoe runs great, but the security light on the instrument panel stays lit when the truck is running. It does shut off when the key is off and doors are locked. What's the problem??

The security light is an indicator for a failed antitheft system. This is ALL it is for. NOTHING else. If the light is on and you are experiencing no adverse effects, you are probably alright. My guess is that the system failed, and somebody bypassed the antitheft system. (poorly) This would cause the light to be constant and the vehicle to run normally. (assuming you bought this used)

Here is a cheap way to see if the system was bypassed.
Go get a copy made of your truck key. Will cost a couple bucks. The original key has a Transponder hidden in the plastic head of the key. This transponder is a needed part of the antitheft system. The new key will NOT have this transponder. If it turns fine and starts the truck like normal, then your truck is bypassed and problem is explained and solved. If the new key turns but the truck will not remain running, then you are probably on the verge of a security failure, indicated by the security light.

Also make sure the original key is nowhere near the vehicle when you try this out. You dont want the ignition reading the signal from the original key while trialing the newly copied key

How to sTart if lost key?

Impossible to hotwire unless antitheft system is bypassed. The key holds a transponder in it that is a crucial part of the antitheft system. Without the key or bypassing the antitheft, the vehicle will not run.
