Unplugging MAF tells the pcm that the car has a problem some pcm,s will atomatically turn on fan, have you changed fuel filter or checked fuel pressure, the fan will only come on if temp reaches 104oc or air cond pressure gets to 250psi

Code po172(loss of power) on 2002 pontiac sunfirer

Possible causes
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
My bet would be dirty fuel injectors, Try putting fuel injector cleaner in your tank next time you fill up.

2003 Grand Am Has P0102

It is not an ECM/PCM problem.
P0102 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input
Possible causes- Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Intake air leaks Tech notes Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor

Why does my 1995 240sx bog and sputter

bad maf? happens once in a while especially with this 15 year old car. buy some maf cleaner for ^ bucks and spray the maf off the car. dont use anything to dry it just the spray. do what the previous poster suggested and id change the o@ sensor since its obviously a bad fuel to air ratio.

CAR BOGS DOWN COULD BE FAULTY TPS SENSOR, CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER, STOPPED UP AIR FILTER, FAULTY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.BEST BET IS TO HAVE CAR CODE SCAN MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE ENGINE BOG DOWN.HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN AND SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY FAULT CODES.MAKE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.ENGINE NEED TRANSMISSION TO FOR TORQUE AND POWER TO PUT CAR IN MOTION IF TRANSMISSION NOT WORKING OKAY IT WILL PULL DOWN ENGINE POWER.

2001 nissan maxima gle it bogs down when i press on the gas, idles low at .5 rpm, dies when i start it i have to keep my foot on the gas, lights run dim when i come to a full stop it has 155,000 miles

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you replace the MAF (mass air flow) sensor and the TPS (throttle position sensor). If the MAF and TPS is faulty the RPM tends to go down or goes erratic. The MAF and TPS is located at the throttle body which is secured by small screws or bolts. It is visible which can easily be seen.

Once replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

99 Grand Prix idles funny, dies got code p0102,

this vehicle most likely has a mass air flow sensor it may have got accidently unplugged or the air tube from mass airflow to engine is not connected well or it could be that you have indeed a bad mass air flow sensor they do make a special cleaner that you may want to try before purchasing a mass air flow sensor or purchasing one from salvage yard the symptoms you describe would be created by a bad massair flowsensor

What is the sensor on the front of the throttle body on a 99 grand am

Its either a mass air flow sensor or a throttle position sensor(TPS) if it is on the side of the throttle body in-line with the butterfly it is a TPS. If it is inside the air intake tube it is a MAF sensor but those are usually either in the intake after the throttle body or in the intake tube right after the air filter

1996 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH OCCASIONAL SLUGGISHNESS ON ACCELERATION AND SEEMS LIKE IT MAY BE USING MORE GAS THAN USUAL. HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF, REG. OIL CHANGES, NEW FUEL FILTER 2 YRS AGO-DR

I would use 10W40 in the 96 and 5W20 or 30 in the 2002.

For the 96 with sluggishness, you need to gently clean the MAF sensor wires with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. It is in the air intake tube. After cleaning, disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour, then reconnect so the computer can relearn the clean sensor. Drive for 10 miles, it will run rough until it relearns.

Section 03-14: Engine Controls, Electronic 1996 Town Car, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor The mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) (12B579):
  • is mounted on the corner of the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600).
  • uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine; air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool.
  • sends out an analog voltage signal to the PCM (12A650) to determine the intake air mass. The PCM will then calculate the required fuel injector pulse width to provide the desired air/fuel ratio.
The mass air flow sensor hot wire sensing element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly.

My car doesnt accelerate like its supposed to do.It seems to me like it boags down when i push the gas but when i let off the gas a little it will accelerate slowly. It has no power, once you get to going...

try to have your intake manifold and air filter cleaned. Also, try to replace the fuel filter. these are usually the culprits for the problem that you are experiencing.

96 pontiac sunfire bogs down and dies when I apply the gas.

as far as the bogging and dieing,it sounds like the tps.a simple trottle body service would fix that.for your new problem you need to some test before pointing to a salution.start the car and cover your tail pipe.as pressure builds it push you hand off.a clogged cat will put to much back pressure on the engine.i would un plug the mass air flow sensor and try running the car.this will turn on the check engine light.check your air filtter and plugs.also check your wires.a nother test is a coil strees test.(you have to go to a shop for this)if the car runs ok with no load but spitts and sputters in drive you may have a openning coil.checking with a meter only works if it does not run.last but not least while you at the shop, have them check your timing.a faulty cam sencer will bog the car down with bad timing advancement but not throw a code.
hope this helps, remember to keep it simple, expensive elec. parts are not always the problem
