Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

2 Answers

When I start my car, I hear a clicking noise under the hood. Moving around the engine compartment, it seems to be coming from the area where the alternator is located. The only work I did to the car was change the brake pads earlier in the day. I really would not like to take it to a dealer, but my haynes manual didn't have anything in the alternator section or trouble shooting section about clicking noise.

my haynes manual shows a picture of a different belt tensioner than i see in my car. How do you relax the tension on the belt in a 1997 Grand Prix? I see no notch for a breaker bar. The only thing i see that I can get a wrench on is the shouldered bolt in the middle of the pulley itself.

Remove the belt and spin the alternator and other pulleys by hand. & see if you can locate the noise. If not then start the engine with the belt removed and see if the noise has disappeared with the belt removed. Check the belt closely for damage.

Probably an A.B.S. sencor relay. Check the A.B.S. connection at the wheel.

My 2003 Denali won't start I turn the key and just get a fast clicking noise good battery new starter and all power works

Where's the clicking noise coming from ? Under the dash , under the hood in the engine compartment ? Do starter circuit voltage drop test ! When the key is in start position is there constant B+ voltage at the 10 amp crank fuse in the under hood fuse box ? This is an input to the PCM - engine computer to energize the starter relay ! Starter Voltage Drop The battery is good , starter is new ,what about the cables ? watch this video on testing starter circuit !

Noise coming from engine compartment on 2012 F-150 Ecoboost

This is a problem particular to the 2012 Ford F-150 with V-6 Ecoboost engine.
Right after starting the engine, stepping on the brake, putting it in drive or reverse, do you hear a grinding or buzzing noise coming from the engine compartment?
Near the driver's side front bumper?
If you open the hood, it sounds like it's coming from under the air filter?
It's the vacuum pump.
Seems there is not enough vacuum from the turbocharged engine to effectively operate the master cylinder booster, so they added a supplemental pump.
Later models come equipped with a mechanical pump.
Motorcraft Part # BRPV10
I have a video. Look and listen. You'll hear the noise shortly after the engine starts up.
Price for replacement vacuum pump from Ford dealer is over $600.
Parts were available from RockAuto or Amazon for half price, but they have become scarce for some reason.
It's very easy to replace. The pump is directly behind the headlamp assembly.
Remove the headlamp assembly and the pump is easily accessible.
Power connector, vacuum hose, and a couple of bolts.

Why won't my car start? What is making the clicking noises coming from the engine compartment?

soleniod on the starter motor is the most likely source of the clicking noise. The starter motor may be faulty and not cranking over the motor.

Noise is coming from the middle dash area, you can hear it inside the cab but engine area seems fine, no noise, this is driving me nuts, it sounds like a loud flapping or banging

Does this happen constantly or only when you have the cabin a/c or heater fan blowing? Do you hear it when the vehicle is running but not moving? I suspect that something fell down into one of the windshield defroster vents and is rattling around inside the blower fan cage.

Hear a gurgaling noise from the lower front passenger area when I first start moving forward

Could be several things, coolant in the heater core or water moving around in the evaporator case. Is the coolant level full and does water come out the drain tube of the evaporator on the ground when the A/C is running. Those are two things I'd check first.
