Undo any screws in the area around the instrument cluster and the whole fascia should pop out. then you need to take out the 4 screws holding the cluster into the dash and pull forward and undo the connectors (should be 2). after that find the black knobs on the back and twist counter clockwise. The bulb/socket assembly should pop out when it hits the right spot. I have often found that the sockets are hard to get a grip on and hard to turn and recommend using a wrench or pair of small pliers to grip them.

My 99 chevy silverado dashboard turns off and on when turns on stay that way for a shor period of time and then turns off

you either have a bad fuse or you may have to replace the bulbs behind your dashboard. most of the

lights behind the dashboard are wired in series, what that means if one goes out all the rest go out.

1st thing you want to do is disconnect the negative side of your battery.

you will have to unscrew the trimpiece around the dashboard, unscrew the dashboard, once you access the

back of the dashboard, you will see all the little lights. keep track of where the lights are inserted,

because if you don't you will have more problems. if you have an ohm meter you can check each bulb

one at a time. I recommend if you go this far just replace all of them, to save a headache later on.
good luck!

Mileage recorder/odometer not working(lighting up) everything else on the dashboard is fine-help

Bulb gone, there is about a dozen bulbs behind the dash. A bit of a nightmare to replace. Takes about 1 hour. I would advise changing all the bulbs while your doing it.

Lights in the dashboard

Check operation & wiring at light control rheostat (left side of dash) & If everything else with electrical is OK, sounds like the bulbs may have simply blown. You will have to pull out instrument cluster to get at the bulbs.

Lights very dim in speedmetor head

Yes the whole dash does have to come out to get at the bulbs as they are all mounted behind the dashboard. Just remove the moulding around the dashboard and then remove all the screws that hold the dash in place and you should be able to change the bulbs pretty easy then. Also i would just replace all the bulbs when your doing this as it will save you from having to do this again.
