Question about 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Club Cab

2 Answers

My 97 2500 diesel ram starts shaking uncontrolably at 25 to 30 miles per hr. I just replaced the pitman arm pass, side hub assembly and stering stabilizer, the pass side of the drag link is loose at the bushing, i need to change that, but none of this shaking was happening before i changed the parts i listed . what would be causing this shaking, the stering wheel shakes back and forth, the front tires shake, every time i go over the slightest bump i can feel the front end wanting to shake unless i slow way down to about 20 mph

Sounds like it may be out of alignment bad. although the drag link will do this also all by itself

Could be crankshaft position sensor ! after a crank sensor is replaced it needs to have a relearn done , Dealer or some other independent repair shop . Take it an have it checked out , unless you have a factory scan tool or a professional type scan tool .

Feels loose while driveing

Air pressure good in tires? Idler and pitman arms would get loose. Jack up front wheels and grab them on each side and wiggle them from side to side. Watch for movement in the steering linkage. Then grab wheel on top and bottom. Wiggle it again. If it moves then, you need a wheel bearing Hub assembly or ball joint.

My 94 Silverado pulls very hard to the right, and is eating up my front left tire like nothing. what other than alignment can be going wrong?

You could have a bad tie rod end, Idler arm, pitman arm, wheel bearing or ball joint. All of these will normally cause a vibration also. Check by jacking the front end one side at a time and moving the tire back and forth on front and back and in and out on top and bottom. Either watch or have someone else watch the steering assembly for movement and where it is. If there is no unusual movement, it is more than likely an alignment problem or tire problem.

When braking between 80-60 kph the steer is

You could have a worn idler arm and pitman arm. The idler arm is more common to wear out before the pitman arm so start with that and have the front end aligned. Inspect all your front end steering components for damaged and worn out parts that need to be replaced.
Thank you for using Fixya, you did replaced your brake rotor when you replaced the brake pads right???

Right front tire

the next thing is to have the tire checked for a hop in it,meaning its not straight and round, start there.

2001 ram 2500 how to remove the wheel hub assembly

Remove tire. Remove caliper and caliper holder. Remove rotor. Using a 36 MM socket remove center nut and slide hub off spindle. If hub does not come off freely use wheel puller to remove hub.Loosen front wheel lug nuts. Jack up and support front of truck with jack stands ( put them in the middle so both you can get to both sides of the truck). Remove tire, Remove caliper and caliper holder. romove rotor ( I had to use a 2x4 wedged between rotor and lower controll arm rubber stoper. then started truck and turned the wheel right or left to pop rotor free). remove 3 bolts that hold hub to knuckle. on the next step I used a steel pipe about 1 1/2 foot i think about 2 inches in diamater. wedge it between lower controll arm rubber stoper. then start truck turn the wheel left or right to let power steering pump do the work. It poped it off easy for me both sides in less than 1 hour. put alot of anti seize on the new hubs and bolts in case you have to replace them again. use a torque wrench to tighten all bolts. Great time to replace brakes as long as you are in the area. hope this helps.

97' jeep cherokee laredo shakes when driving

Could be a number of things from ball joints to your pitman arm(arm that steers the tires). It dont sound like tire are way out of balance because yu said it only starts when you hit a bump. If it was me, Id crawl under the front end and start shaking different parts until I figured out what was loose. if its shaking that bad you should definitly be able to tell when you shake it.
