Question about 1995 Isuzu Rodeo

2 Answers

I have just rebuilt the engine on my 95 isuzu rodeo and when i set the timing marks according to facotry specs it will not start and sounds like the valves are open when the pistons reach the top of the firing stroke and i get backfires. I did set the timing marks to match the specs for a 98 or newer and was able to get the vehicle to fire and run for a moment. I am at my wits end with this, please help.

Ok, let's try this. Bring #1 to tdc, belt off, then turn the cam manually until the #1 intake valve just closes. Now turn the crank and bring the #1 piston to the top. You are at the top of the compression stroke Check your timing marks. The should be corect Put the belt back on and turn the crank through the cycle watching the valves.
#1 IS ON THE POWER STROKE (BOTH VALVES CLOSED)
#1 ON EXHAUST STROKE (EXHAUST VALVE OPEN
iNTAKE STROKE EXHAUST CLOSING,- INTAKE OPENING
COMPRESSION STROKE-- BOTH VALVES CLOSED Good Luck. any further help let me know Good Luck, Ned

You said you did to specs but if that was the case the valves would not be open at tdc.
triple check your timing(get a light if nessisary)
check that you dont have the plug wires mixed up
Note:
Izuzu engines are very picky and if the marks are not correct after turning over two rotations as stated in the book it will not run.
(im also taking that this is the v6SOHC engine)

Isuzu 4jx1 crank pulley not turning after replaced cylinder head. Is it timing issue? If say so, how to set the timing right with crank and cam shaft?

it sounds like u have something stuck in the engine ,u should be able to turn the shaft manually.so tear it back down and look for something in there or something stuck.dont try to force the engine to turn it over.if it just wont start and does turn over ,set the timing by putting the cylinder on #1 and make sure your timing marks line up.

1995 2.3L 4W ISUZU RODEO HOW DO YOU GET IT BACK IN TIME

Remove timing belt cover and the timing belt. Line up the cam gear timing mark with the mark that is behind it. Then, set the crankshaft pulley timing mark to zero degrees or whatever the book says. Then re-install the timing belt and re-torque the timing belt tensioner to the proper torque. Turn the engine one full turn, with a breaker bar and socket. Re-check the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft. Re-install the timing belt cover and everything else you took off to get to the belt. Be sure to torque the crankshaft pulley bolt to specs.

Your fuel pump may be bad. But have you checked the cam positioning sensor or map sensor. But one more thing, I would check the timing belts, if anything is one tooth off it will cause lots of problems. If you need parts. Look up Tom's Truck Parts on the internet. I have rebuilt 2 1995 Isuzu Rodeos and they have everything you may need.

Isuzu Rodeo Timing Problem

Are you saying it won't crank or won't start ?
If you need the procedure to check the timing marks on the cam gears that should be in a repair book or shop manual.
It is an interference engine, so you have to be careful and not crank the engine with the starter if the cams are not in time with the crank.

I have a 95 Isuzu rodeo. The engine makes a loud, almost diesel engine noise. When I am accelerating, the noise seems to go away. When I was shopping for this vehicle, I saw many ads that said their's make...

ATTENTION!! Do not run the engine if you do not want to have to buy an engine!! I just solved this problem with my own 95 Rodeo the problem you are having is common on 95 rodeo with 3.2 L engine. Failure of the hydralic timing belt tensioner will allow the tensioner pulley to knock against the top of the tensioner unit ( inside timing cover lower left side of crank pulley little cylinder looking part ) held in by 2 bolts when you take it off if you can depress the button its bad . Dealer has part for $110.00, so go to auto zone but they dont have it listed for 95 rodeo have them look up timing belt tensioner for 95 honda passport $76.95 takes 2 days VDO (Vendor Order only) not a very hard job have fun dont forget to change the timing belt and water pump for good measure after the complete job is done you should not have to worry about it for another 70,000 miles.have a good day

Are there any other alternators compatible with a 94 Isuzu Rodeo such as an Isuzu Trooper or another make/model? If so up to what year?

On a v6 it must be off of a rodeo v6 only from 11-92 thru 11-95. If you get an aftermarket alt. get a beck arnley brand , others do not work. Try to get your rebuilt at a place that rebuilds alts. and starters locally.

try the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail, it sounds like its dumping to much fuel. the only other thing that may do that is something in your IAC ( Idle air control) could be stuck.
