Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My jeep will just quit running as if you turned off the key.

Sometimes it will start back up and other times it has to sit for a while. But then it just happens again. the engine has been throughly check out and everything is good. There is no warning when it dies. It does not
overheat and the fuel pump is new.

Likely everything checked out during testing because it was running properly during the tests. Obviously everything can't be good or you would not have a problem. A failing crank position sensor or a bad ignition switch come to mind first., or possibly a bad auto shutdown or fuel pump relay. (or their contacts where they plug in.) Without being there to do testing, I can't give a definite answer (but the shop couldn't either) but, that's where I'd start looking.
Good luck

My 1995 jeep will die just driving and sometimes will start right back up other times you have to wait about an hour. fuel pump is working fine you can hear it

The pump can be running but not pumping any fuel.
When it stops running you will need to figure out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors.

98' jeep starts sometimes

The next time it fails to start, you'll need to start crossing off the possible causes. Is it lack of fuel or lack of spark ? Is the asd relay working, and so on. Once you narrow down the causes you can troubleshoot it better.

I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee and it always starts up, but sometimes it just shuts off randomly while I'm driving and after a few minutes of rest turns back on, the battery will still be worki

Install a new crank shaft sensor. I had the same problem with my wife's Jeep. It would run fine fore days at a time then quit. When the crank sensor goes out their is no spark or injection of fuel into the engine. This is a Hall Sensor. They can be intermittent, and affected bu heat. If your Jeep will not start, try freeing the sensor and see if it starts. Cold Freeze is used in electronics to test

Our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited keeps stopping and the gas guage is the only guage that quits working. We had the crank case sensor replaced and that didn't work. Sometimes we have to wait 30-45...

In defence of yoru mechanic most times they do not have time or the shop owners dont aloow them to drive the vech long enough to duplicate the prolbem, I have found just letting a vech sit and running in my bay does produce the same effect as driving it does. But since you related the fuel gauge stops work when this happend i would first check to make sure the fule pump is not drawing to much amperage and shutting down. Then when it cools off it starts right back up.

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Will die going down the road. Sometimes it starts back up without me touching the key.other times I have to wait a few minutes before it will crank again.Any suggestions? Thank...

I've got to be reading this incorrectly...You are driving, the engine turns off...you pull off the road? And then without touching the key the engine re-starts, but you haven't touched the key? Or, sometimes you need to sit there for a few minutes and then turn the key to start it?

Check your neutral safety switch, it is supposed to prevent starting in gear and it sounds like it is time to replace it. countrycurt0
