You need to put your head under the dash where the top of the clutch pedal is to get off the cable end if its hard to do dissconnect it at the gearbox clutch fork first and dont forget to back off the adjusting nuts and re do them with the new cable

Put a new clutch cable on my escort but no good as i can not adjust the pedal


LIFT THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO DISENGAGE THE ADJUSTING MECHANISM.THIS MUST BE DONE DURING CABLE INSTALLATION AS FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE SELF ADJUSTER MECHANISM.INSERT THE CLUTCH CABLE THROUGH THE DASH PANEL AND THE DASH PANEL GROMMET.( WARNING ) BESURE THE CLUTCH CABLE IS ROUTED UNDER THE BRAKE LINES AND NOT TRAPPED AT THE SPRING TOWER BY THE BRAKE LINES IF EQUIPPED WITH POWER STEERING ROUTE THE CABLE INBOARD OF THE POWER STEERING HOSE.PUSH THE CLUTCH CABLE THROUGH THE INSULATOR ON THE STOP BRACKET AND THROUGH THE RECESS BETWEEN THE PEDAL AND THE GEAR QUADRANT.LIFT THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO RELEASE THE PAWL ROTATE THE GEAR QUADRANT FORWARD AND HOOK THE CABLE INTO THE GEAR QUADRANT.INSTALL THE CLUTCH SHIELD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT BRACKET.ON THE TEMPO OR TOPAZ INSTALL THE PANEL ABOVE THE CLUTCH PEDAL.USING A PIECE OF WIRE CORD OR TAPE SECURE THE PEDAL IN THE UPMOST POSITION.INSERT THE CLUTCH CABLE THROUGH THE INSULATOR AND CONNECT THE CABLE TO THE CLUTCH RELEASE LEVER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.REMOVE THE DEVICE USED TO TEMPORARILY SECURE THE PEDAL AGAINST ITS STOP.ADJUST THE CLUTCH BY DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES.INSTALL THE AIR CLEANER.

look under your dash driverside at your clutch pedal and there should be an arm that goes through the firewall and to your pedal if it is disconected reconect it if not then check your clutch fluid

REMOVAL:
  1. Lift clutch pedal to uppermost position to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
  2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and unhook clutch release lever cable from clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft and allow it to slowly swing rearward.
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4. Remove clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Disconnect clutch release lever cable from clutch release shaft.
  6. Remove retaining clip, then clutch release lever cable from flywheel housing.
  7. Remove starter motor from flywheel housing, then engine rear plate to front lower flywheel housing bolts.
  8. Remove transmission.
  9. Remove flywheel housing back just far enough to clear clutch pressure plate, then remove housing.
  10. Remove clutch release shaft from flywheel housing by pulling it through window in flywheel housing until retainer spring disengages from pivot.
  11. Remove clutch release hub and bearing from clutch release shaft.
  12. Loosen six clutch pressure plate bolts evenly to release spring tension gradually and avoid distorting clutch pressure plate. If same clutch pressure plate is to be installed, mark plate and flywheel so pressure plate can be installed in its original position.
  13. Remove clutch pressure plate and clutch disc from flywheel.
INSTALLATION:
  1. Position clutch disc and pressure plate assembly on flywheel, noting following:
    1. Three flywheel housing to block dowels on flywheel must be properly aligned with clutch pressure plate.
    2. Bent, damaged or missing flywheel housing to block dowels must be replaced.
    3. tart clutch pressure plate bolts but do not tighten.
    4. Avoid touching clutch disc face, dropping parts or contaminating parts with oil or grease.
    5. Align clutch disc using suitable alignment tool inserted in pilot bearing.
    6. To avoid clutch pressure plate distortion, alternately tighten bolts a few turns at a time, until they are all tight, then tighten to specifications.

  2. Install transmission to flywheel housing.
  3. Install engine rear plate to flywheel front lower housing bolts, then connect clutch release cable to flywheel housing and connect retaining clip.
  4. Connect clutch release lever cable to clutch release shaft, then install clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Install starter motor.
  6. Lower vehicle, then install clutch release lever cable as follows:
    1. Lift clutch pedal to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
    2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and hook end of clutch release lever cable over rear of clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.

  7. Cycle clutch pedal several times to adjust clutch release lever cable

HI, you can start with the basics ,check fluid at the clutch slave reservoir ,if it need fluid ,add to the max and pump the clutch pedal to see if it engage,if not,you must have to bleed it ,it should be a bleeding valve at the slave cilinder,you will need assistance to do this ,to pump the cluth pedal several times and hold it down while you open and let the air out .if this dont help,it may be a bad cluth assembly,it is not to hard to replace it and you dont need any special tools,just basic tools and if you cant get a tranny jack you can use a floor jack, this are the basic steps disconect your positive battery cable remove the shifter,lift and secure the jeep in jack stands,disconect the drive shaft at the u joints , remove all the bolts that holds the tranny to the motor,you my have to remove the starter,position the jack under the tranny ,remove the cross member,remove all cables and every thing around tranny carefully pull the tranny to the back,replace the cluth good luck.................

Clutch slipping


first i would try adjusting the clutch cable because commonly people with think that they're clutch is going out when really just the cable has gotten stretched....try adjusting that first and if that works then you should be fine for another couple thousand miles but if you want to not have to worry bout it for awhile i would just replace teh clutch assembly....usually ranges from $200 to $450 depending on the clutch set and the mechanic that does the work for you. Let me know what happens. :)

Front wheel Drive query


DEar Customer,

your from is that your car is front wheel drive & you have to reset your car clutch point that loose its sensitivity as they had before,

its not a big prib you have to open bonet than make more active clutch wire with streching clutch joints.
