Instead of improvising, why not get the stop lamps working the way they should be. You must be getting power through 15A fuse 23 in the fuse block and the stop lamp switch, otherwise the high mounted stop lamps would not work. Stop lamp power is routed through the turn signal switch and is applied to the tail/turn/stop-lamps. That should solve your problem

My brake lights aren't working on my 97 Chevy Monte Carlo-the top center light works. Don't know which fuse to check for brake lites. I know where the box is, but don't want to check each one. HELP!!

It should only take you less than 5 minutes to look through all of the fuses. That might be easier than waiting for a diagram. If you still want one, just go to your local autozone or Advance Auto Parts, and they will have one for you. If your fuse isn't the issue, it might be your brake switch sensor.

I can not get my monte carlo out of park. I push on the break, and I have done everything that the driver manual tells me to. My model is a 97. I am aware of a switch behind the break pedal, but I do not...

it is the shift lever solenoid, if you can acess the inside of the console where the gear shifter is on the bottom left side of the shifter you will see an electrical connecter that has 2 wires hooked to it this is the solenoid, you can replace this and it will fix your problem, or you can just unplug it and the shifter will work, if you choose to leave it unplugged beware that the transmisson will now be able to be shifted into gear without your foot having to be applied to the brake, but hey, who puts their car in gear without their foot on the brake, all this system is is a saftey device to keep you from shifting into gear without your foot on the brake

I have a 97 monte carlo, the brakes r gone. the onlly thing that has me stumpped is that everything with the pads and lines r good, and the reservor is full but still no brakes i also bleed them all like 5...

If the brake pedal goes to the floor you need a new mastercylinder so have that changed and bleed the brake system, that should fix your brake problem.

How do I reset the computer in a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo? The electrical has been acting "strangely" the last month, and then suddenly refused to start. The battery still lights up the car. Since it...

You can reset the computer by disconnecting the battery terminals from the battery and touching them together for 60 seconds. This probably won't fix your problem.

Is the 'weird noise' the normal noise you hear when you crank a car over? If so, that's the starter. If you don't hear it, you have a starter issue. You may want to try holding the brake, turning the key on to the first click, pulling the shifter into neutral, and trying. Sometimes this works and indicates a failing park/neutral switch. If not that, put car back into park. Have someone gently tap the starter with a hammer while you crank the engine. Sometimes this will jar a dead starter into motion. In that case, change the starter.

Ring back with more details if you need.
