I have a 2001 ford ranger 2.5L sometimes the fuel pump wont prime when you turn the key on. It seems worse if the truck sits for a couple of days you can cut the key on and off a few times and it will start and run fine. It might not do thiss for a few weeks then it might every day any help would be appreciated

Check the fuel pump and see is working properly, if the pump is good than the problems will be the crank sensor is faulty. what crank sensor does it sense the turning of the flywheel and it send a single to ecu, and ecu send a flow of power to turn on the fuel pump as long it sense the flywheel turning.

My 2002 Ford Ranger, 4.0 V-6, never starts on the first try. If I turn the switch off and try again it will start right up. It is a four-wheel drive with 167,000 miles on it and everything else work

Sounds like the fuel pump is not being primed when the ignition is switched on. Put a meter across the pump to check this. Turn the ignition on, but don't start: you should measure 12 volts across it for a few seconds. If not, then there is a failure on the fuel pump relay (probably) or worse, the ECU (in which case live with it, as they are an expensive item). Fuel pump relay is an easy swap out.

I changed my fuel pump because it has 260,000 miles on it and truck would cut off when It got warm. Now it wont start after I replaced pump. What do I need to do to get it to start again?

Did you put at least 5 gallons in the tank so the pump will prime properly? Do you hear the new pump running for 1 second when the key is turned to run? Do this remove the Schrader valve core from the fuel supply rail to the injectors on the engine fuel pressure test port (don't loose it) and repeatedly cycle the key from off to run, do not crank the engine, this will help to prime the electric fuel pump, but have at least 5 gallons in the tank before starting the process. Make sure someone watches the fuel pressure test port so when fuel starts to flow you stop the priming process before everything is covered in gas. Also a fuel pump doesn't cause the system you described, an ignition control module and stator cause that and are a known problem in this year of truck. Another problem is the ignition starter switch comes apart.

I have a 87 ford ranger 2.9 4+4 replaced both fuel pumps and fuel pump regulator when it sits for over night it looses fuel psi so when i start it in the morning it acts like it has no fuel but after a...

Without seeing it it is a hard thing to diagnose. You could have an injector leaking, possibly a fuel line. Do you smell gas? Sometimes with fords around the fuel filter leaks because of a broken clamp. The o rings around the fuel injectors could be leaking, or one of the rubber fuel lines. If you go off road alot, you could have a pin hole in one of the rubber or metal lines. Check and get back with me and I will do the best I can to help. Hope tis helps.

sounds like fuel pressure bleeding off. Bad fuel pump or bad pressure regulator on fuel rail. Can you hear pump run for 5 seconds when you turn key on? do this twice, 30 deconds apart and see if it starts ok.

1990 Ranger 2.9 runs pretty well until you shut it off and try to start it back. Smells like it is not getting fuel(real lean). Fuel pump and filter are new. What holds pressure to the fuel rail when off?...

nothing really except sometimes your fuel lines. you should have replaced the fuel filter when you replaced the pump so your pump lasts a lil longer. a clogged filter overloads the pump

Engine will not fire immediately when key engaged unless accelerater pumped prior to key engagment, already changed fuel filter twice

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is allowing the fuel pressure to bleed down. While sitting (key off) it should hold about 30 psi of fuel pressure to keep the system primed. When it bleeds down it causes an extended start, you sometimes have to cycle the key a couple of time before it will start. If this is the case then replace fuel pressure regulator. FYI pumping the accelerator on a fuel injected vehicle does not prime the system.

2001 ford ranger after it sits for a few hours it

No not the fuel pump. You most likely need to do a tune uo. New spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter. Deffinently change out the spark plugs. I would suggest using autocraft, autolite (fords brand} or some densos or ngk for better performance. Hope this solves your problem.
