Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Montero

1 Answer

I get a very high pitched squeal only when I turn gently.

I never had the problem on my 2000 Montero Sport until I had my brakes redone. I've taken it back twice but the mechanic can't find anything wrong. He has cleaned the brakes but can't find any problem.

Did he tell you what brand of brake pads / shoes he installed? Sometimes aftermarket brake pads or shoes can cause squealing noises. Whenever i do a brake job i like to use OEM pads with new shims if available.

My 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport makes a high pitched humming noise when in reverse backing up. Does not make it when in gear driving.

If coming from transmission may not be a real issue. If coming from rear of car, likely a rear brake issue.

2000 Impala high pitched squeal, not a pulley

It could be a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold or pipes Start engine and allow it to idle, spray some wd 40 or similar around the inlet manifold & vacuum pipes, if you notice a change in engine speed when you spray you will have found the area of the leak

2000 montero sport: There's a loud squealing noise coming from the engine. What could be wrong?

Squealing is most common with loose or worn belts, I would start by replacing the drive belt on the front of the motor and go from there, Its easier to troubleshoot a squealing motor if you know that the belt or belts are good.

Squealing Tires?

Is it a tire squeal or brake squeal? If it is brake squeal put high temp synthetic brake lube grease behind the brake pads to reduce/remove the brake squeal. This allows the pads to sit on a bed of grease and will not vibrate at the frequency which produces the squeal.

Bleeding brakes on a 2001 montero sport with abs

start from the rr to lr then rf to lf replace any brakefluid lost from master cylinder before and after each wheel is bled you will need an assistant to depress the brakes as you bleed them or better to use a rubber hose that will fit over the bleeder screw and submerge the other end into a container of brake fluid open the bleeder screw approximately 1\2 turn and gently push brake pedal to floor and slowly let up until no bubbles are visible when you depress brake pedal. always start from furthest bleeder and work to closest to master cylinder.

Break squeal can be stopped by applying shims or anti-squeal compound to the pads.

Put the car in neutral, set the parking brake, open the hood, get someone to listen/see where the sound is coming from, as you press on the accelerator.
