Left lights on. Got a jump. Hybrid Civic will now not charge. IMA light on; battery light on. What to do?

The car has 9,000 miles on it. Why would the battery be dead? Why would the alternator be broken at that low mileage? I do not have a battery tester., Guess I should take it to the dealer? It's still under warranty? I was hoping I could avoid going to the dealer. Guess not???

Hi

A power reset will likely fix these IMA lights and battery light. It costs you nothing and it is worth a try. Yes, make sure you do a power reset before you go in.
Do the reset by leaving the battery terminal open for 20mins & then check if the issue is resolved.

If this doesn’t resolve your issue then get the Motor Rotor Sensor checked. Also get the system checked for any trouble codes.

The 12 V battery is the cause of this issue most of the times, check for battery voltage using a multimeter. If it is quite old then you should replace it.

Also check your IMA battery State of Charge (SoC). Do you see any sudden discharges followed by frequent and aggressive recharge attempts. If yes, then its time to replace IMA batteries. The newer batteries are better than the first generation, and if you were to get them replaced you would also get a new battery control module (BCM).

Thanks for using FixYa.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Test if there is voltage at the alternator. Use a car tester to check if there is voltage from alternator.

If the alternator is OK, replace battery. A battery that is shorted inside will not charge.
If replacing the battery does not help, then it is usually a faulty alternator.

Engine code P1600 and P1449

Hi:

The P1600 code is usually a IMA fault, and the P1449 code is a battery deviation fault.
Both are usually early warning of some sort of hybrid battery issues.
You need to have a system tech give the hybrid system a good look over, but most likely your IMA battery pack is most likely suspect

Have a 2002 Honda Civic Hybrid with 192,000 miles. Only issue I have had to this point is the catalytic converter has ben replaced 3 times, all under warranty. My check engine & IMA lights popped on...

What type of Honda Civic do you have? There is a difference between the LX and EX civic exhaust systems. And your vehicle will not pass inspection with your check engine light on.

Honda code P0A7F

I have a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid and have had hell with it. I have also learnt much about it too.

One thing bad about the HCH2, is that the 12V battery controls the electronics, and the Hybrid battery charges the 12V battery. However the 12V battery is not charged all the time, and cannot be charged when the IMA is usually being used, and in different scenarios. (Buy a Electronic volt meter which plugs into the 12V adapter $14 Walmart))

It is possible that the 12V battery is being drained while driving and caused a voltage drop which can cause your problem. In your case, I would change the 12V battery anyway as they do not last long on Hybrids. (You may have to get Honda to trip the IMA warning lights.) In my case, changing the 12v battery helped the hybrid battery as it was the electronics reporting the charge level wrong.

Depending where you live, you will have a minimum 80,000 mile warranty on the hybrid battery.

Honda 2004 Civic Hybrid IMA light

Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system uses high output electric motor-generator providing more efficient engine operation by capturing electrical energy during braking or deceleration and use of that energy to power the vehicle hence saving valuable fuel. The engine shut off during stops further increases efficiency of the vehicle. This can cause Damage to the Battery System if left UnRepaired for Too Long. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Codes P1433 and P1600 on Civic Hybrid

those codes are thrown when there is a momentary hicup in the electrical delivery from the battery pack. clear the codes and drive it, if they dont come back you are all good, it they do come back then you most likely have a corrosion issue between the battery monitor system and the battery
