Not all cars even today come standard with cruise. The Cougar was kind of a low end economy car and CC was no standard. It's entirely possible that your friend's car doesn't have it.

Cruise control on our 04 impala 3.4 doesn't work. Checked fuses, Pcm, vast, icm, changed whole steering column, followed wiring diagram. Hadn't checked brake thing yet or wires to bcm. O my lantis!!! Guess a...

Its not the PCM as that would cause engine to not crank or run properly. As you changed the steering column you should have traced wiring for cruise control as its right in front of you. Your wiring is bad for cruise control.

Where to plug the cruise control back in from switch

Remove the covers below the steering column. Locate the wiring harness mounted to the steering column. Follow the wires toward the steering wheel. You should be able to locate the separate 3 same size wire harness for the cruise control. The wires from the switch handle run alongside, on the inside of the column with your turn signal wires.

Back brake light stay on, replaced brake switch same problem.Truck has over drive and cruies control If you take switch out of circuit the brake lights stay on the same with the turn/hazard flasher.

Your brake lights and your turn signals go through the multifunction (turn signal) switch. It is common for these switches to short internally. Partial disassembly of the steering column is required to replace it. The airbag stsyem must be disabled, then the airbag removed from the steering wheel. Then the steering wheel must be removed to access the screw in the front of the switch assembly. The rest is pretty easy... a few screws holing the lower cover of the dash, the shroud around the steering column and a few connectors to deal with. (see pictures of switch assembly below)
There are two types of these switches available for 2000 S-10. With cruise control and without cruise control. The one WITHOUT cruise control is much more expensive!

Where do i find the fuse box for the stereo on a 2000 ford mercry cougar?????

there is no seperate fuse box for the stereo. you have two fuse boxes one under the hood and one inside the car to the left of the steering column. your owners manual should tell you which number fuse controls the radio. is there anything else that is not working? The same fuse may control it,

Cruise control just stopped working after I had a brake job done is this related. How do I go about checking it out , I have had it scoped it was inconclusive. Do we have to take apart the steering colum.

I would check the cruise control cables and the unit, make sure everything is plugged in and connected. Also check the vacuum hose, if so equipped. If you have to replace to cruise control switch, I believe it involves the steering wheel and column. A repair manual maybe helpful with locations and testing procedures. Hope this help you.

Cruise Control

the most common problem is the rotating ribbon contact under the steering wheel that connects the cruise switch's to the steering column and cruise components, we tech's call this the clock spring contact, it is a flat ribbon of printed circuit tape that rolls up and un-rolls as u turn the wheel, it provides a moving connection for all steering wheel mounted controls and the airbag.

Cruise control won't engage

most likely the clock spring is not the problem because when u push the button the dash light cruise comes on.wich means that you do not have an open circuit.with a light tester check to see if you are getting power to the cruise control servo.if you are then replace it.if no power you will need a new cruise control stick on the steering column.
