Check for trouble codes in the PCM. Some codes can command high line pressure in the transmission thus causing harsh shifts.

There is a problem within the valve body.the shift solenoids are most likely worn.

Testimonial: "thanks I will check this out.. Is this a costly repair? and is this a difficult repair to do it yourself?"

ok lets do our best to get this solved.now yes this is a tough one to diagnose but the problem is definitely caused by the shift solenoid.now to be done yourself you will need a lift.at a shop this can be a costly repair.i cant tell you how much but ill explain what needs to be checked so the mechanic doing the job can be sure it is the solenoids. now the transmission oil must be drained and the sub frame must be slightly lowered in order to access all the bolts on the valve body pan.once the pan is removed you will see two large round solenoids.those are the first thing you should check.there is a small bore beside each solenoid with a spring.with a small screwdriver see if the springs can be slightly pushed with a little tension.if so you front solenoids are fine and this diagnosis must be continued.if you arent able to move the springs back at all then this repair will be very inexpensive and you will notice a big improvement in your shifts by the replacement of those springs and solenoids.these are called the 1-2 shift solenoids and if you notice your harshish shifts are in the lowest speeds from first to second gear.let me know the updates.

Transmission shifts very hard

Check your transmission fluid level as soon as possible.
If you are experience hard transmission shifts, it is possible that the only problem is a low transmission fluid level. Low transmission fluid level can change the operating pressures of the transmission as well as reduce the amount of lubricant present between the clutches and bands and raise transmission temperatures. All these things can cause hard or jerky shifting. You need to identify why the transmission has a low fluid level and refill it as soon as possible.

My 1995 buick lesabre electronic transmission- it shifts at the wrong speeds and sometimes will not shift into high gear on the highway, but sometimes it will work. and sometimes it loses gear on th

First off, have you changed your trans fluid lately. sounds like you need a trans flush. when you drop the trans pan and replace the filter and fluid you only get 3 to 4 quarts of transfluid. your trans holdt 12 to 15 quarts. so have it flushed completely cost $80 tp $120 but beats buying a new or rebuilt trans. always make sure you have the right amount of trans fluid. underfilling will cause lose of pressure and not shift properly. over filling a trans will cause over pressure and cause worse problems.

Transmission is shift really hard

Check the color of the transmission fluid, dark colored is bad. Overheating could cause the transmission fluid to go bad. Most transmission fluids are red and semi transparent. If the fluid is bad change the fluid, this can fix hard shifts and shudder.

When my 1993 jimmy 4.3 vortec shifts from first to second it shifts so hard the tires will spin.what will cause this?

Check to see if you have a vacumn pipe from inlet manifold to the gearbox on this age vehicle as if this pipe is perished or disconnected it will not change gear properly

As easy as it sounds, if you haven't done it already, just check your transmission fluid level. A low level will cause hard shifts, and sometimes some slippage in the transmission. The difference in the 2 trips could be just how hot the transmission fluid gets during the type of driving you do.

How do i check if it needs oil on the manual transmission because the shifts are hard to change when running or is there something else to do beside a new clutch already done

Hard shifting may be caused be the clutch not releasing properly. If you have a new clutch your problem might be caused by your hydraulic clutch release system. When stopped and idling you should be able to shift gears without grinding.Reverse grinding may indicate a clutch release problem. You should have some clutch pedal travel up from the floor before you feel it engaging. The oil fill check is either at the speedo or a plug at the axle shaft level.Be sure to use factory recommended fluid.Gear oil is not a proper fluid.
