How to drain and fill transmission fluid in chevy malibu 2012??

mostly to drain transmission oil it is necessary to remove the pan. At 72000miles I suggest that you have an accredited transmission shop do the job as it will be due for a band and clutch pack adjustment and filter clean and general service and this can all be done while the pan is off.

Where is transmission stick located on a 1998 Chevy Malibu automatic

The 1998 Chevy Malibu does not have a transmission dipstick. Although there is a check plug located on the transaxle, near the pan, adjacent to the engine oil drain plug.

1998 Chevy Malibu is using excessive oil. Had an oil change done back in October 2012 . Then checked Oil level in December of 2012 and was about 3/4 low in oil! why ?

first thing check make sure oil pan drain plug tight. check make sure oil filter tight. try tighten oil filter by hand see if turn tighten oil filter clockwise direcction if all is good. how many miles on vechicle.could have oil leaks park vechicle in spot that clean.move vechicle see if you see oil spots on ground if yes.your front timing cover seal leaking oil or rear main oil seal ;eaking.or valve cover gaskets leaking.if find no oil leaks more likely engine burning oil.replace pcv valve.check air filter if you see oil in air filter housing either have bad pcv valve or pcv not getting vacuum make sure pcv valve getting vacuum when engine running vacuum should be felt at pcv if not pcv valve bad or pcv hose disconnected broken or plugged.if pcv valve okay engine has worn piston rings.worn valve seals or guides or oil return holes stopped up thats all possible reasons for engine burning oil.if spark plugs oil fouled engine burning oil.

Transmission stuck in higher gears on highway/fluid fill level

The 1998 Chevy Malibu does not have a transmission dipstick. Instead there is a check plug located on the transaxle, near the pan, adjacent to the engine oil drain plug.

Note: the vehicle must be kept level when checking the transmission fluid level.

Place an oil container under the check plug and remove it. Observe the fluid as it drips into the pan, indicating correct fluid level. The fluid level should be at the bottom of the check hole. Double check to make sure the car is level. If no fluid drips from the check hole, some fluid should be added via the red cap. But add only a little at a time until the fluid is at the bottom of the check hole.

Where is the thermostat in a 98 chevy malibu 2.4L? It does not appear to fit behind the housing where the top radiator hose connectts

No it not at that housing, Its under the car kinda. If you remove the heat sheild for the exhaust manifold you will be able to see the top of the housing. It connects to the bottom of the water pump housing then to a metal pipe that goes under the oil pan to the lower radiator hose. You will be able to remove the two 8mm headed bolts from the top, then unbolt the stud that holding the metal pipe under the oil pan and then you can get to the t-stat. Lots of work in tight spaces but it is possible to do with out pulling the exhaust manifold or the water pump housing!

Serpentine belt

use a wood block (2x4) on the oil pan and a jack. use the biggest block you can fit to spread the load. The oil pan is made of aluminum on this car (I think) be careful the pan can be damaged. Do this all the time and never broke a pan yet but just a disclaimer.
