The sender should be near the filter., but if the needle is that far off, your problem is in the instrument cluster.

96 Chevy blazer how do I get out of safe mode ran low on oil now runs an drives but won't let car go fast past 2000rpms

The computing system on your vehicle has no safe mode for running low on oil . The only thing that will happen is the check gauges light will come on.
The oil pressure gauge is an analog device that is located in the IPC. The oil pressure gauge is operated directly by the oil pressure sensor circuit. As the engine oil pressure changes, the resistance of the sensor and the current flow in the oil pressure gauge changes. The current flow in the oil pressure gauge causes the needle to move in order to appropriately display the engine oil pressure. A sensor resistance of 1ohms will display as 0 kPa (0 PSI) and a resistance of 88 ohms will display as 80 kPa (80 PSI ). The IPC also monitors the oil pressure sensor circuit and interprets the current flow in this circuit in order to determine when the engine oil pressure is too low. If the oil pressure is too low, the check gauges tell tale will turn on. The oil pressure sender is located on the left side of the 2.2L. The 4.3L engine, oil pressure sender is located at the top left side, near the distributor/high voltage switch.
Try disconnecting the battery cables an hold them together for ten minutes , reset ECM !

Oil gauge on 91 Dodge Dakota suddenly running very high but plenty of oil

have a mechanic test the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge
it is more than likely that the electric sender unit has failed and is sticking internally
the tic noise could be a relay working from an intermittent power supply or bad ground

Low oil pressuer light comes on when at idol

You'll have to determine the actual oil pressure. We use a mechanical gauge fastened to one end of a 3' length of high pressure hose. An appropriate fitting at the other end of the hose is threaded into the opening that the oil pressure sender is removed from. Run the engine until warm and read the gauge with the engine idling. If the oil pressure is below 7 lbs the engine probably has seriuos problems. If the oil pressure is higher than that you probably have a bad oil pressure sender. Otherwise you can just change the sender and see if that corrects your problem.

My 1989 Ford Ranger 2.3L 2wd has a problem in the oil pressure area. The pressure gauge at idle says normal but when accelerating it goes past Low. I replaced the pressure sending unit and it didnt...

I would take the sender out and install a temporary manual gauge (we use a manual SW gauge connected to a 3' length of 1/4" high pressure hose). If the oil pressure is normal on the manual gauge then about the only thing left is the gauge itself.

Gauges work fine when engine's started, then oil gauge falls below zero and warning light comes on saying "Check gauges," so I check the oil and transmission fluid levels and these are fine but...

start by checking the ground strap to the engine, and engine to body. The oil pressure sender unit may be bad. You may have to hook up an oil pressure gauge to the oil pressure sender port to verify proper oil pressure. Senders are cheap- I would just replace it and go from there.

When stopped at lights oil light flashes.. My oil level is fine. What could it be?

this is a common sign of a bad oil pressure sender, but could also be caused by low oil pressure, a sender is cheap, but it"s always smart to do a pressure test first with a mechanical gauge, you can obtain a mechanical gauge from most automotive parts stores. then you"ll have to locate and remove the oil pressure sender and install the gauge you bought. make your test at warm idle you should have at least 25 psi below that you may very possible have worn engine bearings making it impossible for the engine to have any better oil pressure at idle. if you have 25 or greater psi of pressure at idle replace your oil sender and you"ll be back on the road

The oil pressure guage doesn't move at all. The needle just sits all the way to the left. I have checked the oil level and its at full. I am just not getting any reading indication from gauge.

Well, stop using the vehicle...What if you actually had zero pressure??

If, however, you are hearing nothing unusual from the engine, you may actually have pressure, but no indication.

Test with a pressure gauge. If you do not have one, just replace the pressure sender. It takes a SPECIAL socket, so locate and borrow or buy one.

The pressure sensor is a high failure item, generally.

Oil pressure slow to rise

you need to try a external gauge to check the pressure to see if your dash gauge is right

if the engine took 10 minutes to get oil pressure it would be dead by now i would replace the oil pressure sender unit first
