Brake light coming off and on

Check the fluid level. Low brake fluid level can cause the brake light to come on warning you of low fluid. It will be off when the car is level, but as you hit bumps and hit your brakes, the fluid that is in there will slosh around indicatind low fluid. Don't overfill and only use DoT 3 brake fluid. Do not substitute anything else.

I have a 2002 pontiac grand prix. my e-brake light will stay on when the e-brake is not on.

Check your brake fluid level. Low fluid levels will cause the brake light to come on. If the fluid is not low, there could be a problem with the emergency brake light switch or the brake fluid level sensor.

Red light on dash panel for brakes on what to do

check to make sure the e-brake is not on enough to turn the light on then check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder.if the level is good check the fluid level sensor in the master and make sure its not stuck at the bottom.if the level is low then check for a brake fluid leak and check the brakes as sometimes if the brakes are worn so much the fluid will be low and the sensor will turn on the light as the fluid level in the master is low to take up the worn brakes.as brakes wear the fluid lowers in the master.

In my 1999 Ford Escort, the brake light in the dash goes on and off all the time, but mostly stays on. I always check the E brake, but it is not the problem. The car drives as good as always so I'm not...

Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. If it is low, you need to find out why it is low. It could be that your brake pads are getting really thin and need to be replaced, or it could be a fluid leak somewhere else in the system.

NOTE: You should NEVER add brake fluid without investigating WHY the fluid level was low. You should never have to add brake fluid to your car.

Brake warning light is on, emergency brake is ok. Is brake cylinder at back of engine on driver side? Do I just add brake fluid to the fill line? Is there a particular kind of brake fluid to use?

If the fluid is lower use dot3 brake fluid. There is a sensor in the master cylinder for the level. If the light goes off then have your brakes checked out if your pads are low the the calipers will be moved out when this happens the fluid level will drop if the calipers are push back in after brake pads are installed the fluid level will go back up i hopes this helps :)

Low brake fluid light comes on when its real cold

A comment from the FixYa Moderation staff:

The brake fluid actually 'contracts', as the ambient temperatures drop. The colder it gets, the more the level is apt to drop, due to this charasteric of brake fluid..

Now, couple this condition with low brake pad thickness, your light will come (the fluid is measured with a sensor in the reservoir) on when it is colder, and go off when the engine compartment warms up; thusly allowing the fluid to expand slightly.

Note that the brake fluid level drops proportionatly to brake pad wear. If you level is low enough to light the light, you are nearing the interval for a brake pad replacement. Adding brake fluid to the master cylinder is NOT advised at this point in time.

If you DO add fluid, and eventually replace the front brake pads, thereafter, the fluid you added will be forced out of the master cylinder, and it will leak all over the paint under the master cylinder. Brake fluid can and will damage painted surfaces.

Best solution we can give you: Simply replace, or have replaced, the front brake pads. The low fluid level condition will rectify itself, as the new pads will force the fluid level in the cylinder reservoir back to its proper level.

Thanks for choosing FixYa

My brake light comes on while driving but the parking brake is not on. Does this mean there is a problem with my brakes? This has happened 4 times in two days. It come on, makes the alert buzz then goes...

Have you checked your brake fluid level? Sometimes, when the brake fluid is just a <little> too low, the brake error light will come on momentarily.
Sometimes parking brakes also stick a little (the cables tend to bind occasionally). This could also be your problem (although I rather doubt it).
Failing this, a quick check of the rotors, calipers, pads, fluid levels and system operation would be advisable.
Hope this helps, Sherwin

Brake light on dash stays on but sometimes goes off when cornering. Whats wrong

Check your brake fluid level. If the level is low, it will cause this. Also- if the level is significantly low, have your brakes checked, or check them yourself. When brake pads or shoes wear down, the level of fluid in the reservoir will drop accordingly with it.

My brake light just came on and when I am driving the car I have to push the brakes harder towards the floor?? Is this a simple fix

First thing to do is check the brake fluid reservoir and make sure the level of fluid is sufficient. Low fluid level can cause what you're experiencing. If the fluid is low, add brake fluid. Keep an eye on the fluid level, since all this could be due to a leak in the brake system. If adding fluid does not help, you'll want to get it checked by a professional.

Brake light on the dash has just come on

If your brake fluid is down it will cause the brake light to come on. If you fill the brake reservior, the light should go out. If it does then you should have the brakes checked for wear. As the brakes wear the fluid follows behind to fill the gap, thus low fluid. Let me know if this helped. Moe
