Question about 1993 Cadillac Eldorado

1 Answer

1993 Eldorado has excelleration problems. Goes from 1000 to 3000

Rpms with no rhyme or reason. This happens consistently, whether I am driving or idling. I have been told to check for leaks in the vacuum hoses. I look under the hood and I think where do I start?

Engine sputters and hiccups when driving

Sounds like you have a cylinder misfire. Is check engine light on ?, Have you had the vehicle somewhere to get a code scan? My assumption is that you have an ignition problem that is causing the rough idle and jerk feeling while driving.
Take the vehicle to a shop and have them diagnose the driveability problem that you are having.

Not sure what "cranks out" means. Please describe what happens in some detail. That may help us diagnose the problem.

Try replacing the fuel filter, it's located underneath on the frame where the front passenger sits, look inside of the frame rail.

Radiator hose is swelled up

A radiator hose that swelled up is caused by the hose breaking down, we call this a "soft hose" and it must be replaced ASAP. As far as the high idle goes this is caused either by an engine vacuum leak or a defective automatic idle speed control valve. You need to have the dealer run some basic testing with a tool called a scanner to see what is going on.

Transmission consistently shifts in and out of overdrive. it is an automatic on a 1993 cavalier. what is the problem?

Usually the problem with shifting in and out of over-drive has to do with a lack of trani fluid pressure.
But after that, the reason it is happening could be anything. Possible causes are low fluid level, clogged filters, internal leak, or sensor failure.

Engine power lost

Try these in order. Change the fuel filter, check the fuel pump pressure at speed, fuel pressure regulator vacuum at the hose or it's operation, plugged exhaust. These are the most likely causes.
