How do I adjust the idel speed on my Chevrolet tacuma it keeps cutting out

There is no adjustment you should mess with, The idle is controlled by the IAC valve. idle air control valve is controlled by the engine computer,ECM,PCM,ECU. There can be a build up of carbon on the pintle an seat causing idle problems . There are some other things that can cause the same symptom , leaking EGR valve, MAF sensor ,vacuum leaks. Ken I don't want seam like I'm knocking on you , but if you don't know about any of this ,your better off taking it to a ASE certified shop . I have been fixing cars for the past thirty years an all to often I get vehicles where the customer listen to someone or thought they could do it them self's . It cost them more in the long run just replacing parts an then still had to bring it into the shop !

Why cant I find vacuum leak/

Waterboard it!

No, really. Get a spray bottle that can spray out a fine mist, and fill it with water. Start the engine and let it idle. Now wet down all suspected areas-vacuum hoses and fittings, intake manifold gaskets, pcv hose, etc.. Special attention to the intake. Wet it down good around the intake sealing area.
If you have a vacuum leak, the water will get sucked into the intake, and you will hear the engine idle change pitch, it may stumble and the idle will drop.
If no leaks found, maybe was something else. Check fuel pressure for one.

My 1990 toyota corolla idles rough. I raised the idle on the throtle body so engine wont stall. except for idle, car runs fine

Vacuume leak is very probabe, check vacuum hoses for leaks, gasket leak at intake manifold or throttle body etc. I like to use starting fluid and spray around a bit. If you spray it on a vacuum leak, your rpms will noticably go up.

2000 gmc jimmy 4x4 p0300. Replaced cap, rotor, wires, plugs, map sensor, checked icm. Nothing has helped

Just a thought, pull the dist.cap and make sure the rotor has
no side to side play ,thinking maybe a bad upper bushing in
the dist. Also,if the EGR valve has carbon and soot built up
on the piston it will make it idle really poor ,but run ok.
Might pull the EGR and clean it with intake cleaner.
Hope this helps.

I have a 1989 honda accord,it will start and idle high.but, when you kick down it will not idle,it has a 2brl carb. on it.

I ran into the same thing on my mom's 89 accord.... I thought it was the choke..... but I found out it was a vacuum leak on a vacuum line.... I found it by spraying carb cleaner on hoses lines with car running it don't take a lot just spray a little and if the engine revs up more you know where about the leak is and can inspect it.... check the intake around the carb and vac lines too...

Start looking for signs of a vacuum leak. A high idle is a good sign of a vacuum hose that is either missing or cracked. Also start looking for other components which may be leaking air into the system. A real easy way to tell if you do in fact have a leak is to take a sensor safe spray such as intake/throttle body cleaner, or Carb Cleaner and spray it on a suspected leak, or around components such as an EGR valve, or fuel injectors. If the idle changes (will most likely cause the engine to stumble and die), you found your leak.

First started not cranking after shutting off say to fill up, mite wait 5 min or a few hours and it will crank and be fine for weeks. now it started like losing power and going dead. agan may wait 5 min or...

Might be two problems, but one is your igniter in the distributor. The second, the idling problem is either your throttle position sensor, or a vacuum leak. With the engine running , check all hoses for leaks by wiggling them around, while listening for a hissing. Check intake bolts for tightness.

With clutch pushed-in, RPMs start to go up to around 2000-2500

if it isnt the iac probably the pcv valve positive crankcase vent. it is on a vacuum line somewere under hood. or check the air cleaner, the hose with the small filter underneath the air filter. i take its fuel injected?
