Go to a parts store and they will give you all the right supplies and tell you how to do it. There is a drain plug on the bottom of your oil pan take plug out and let oil drain. Take out oil filter by hand or with a oil filter wrench. Take new filter and fill it with as much oil as you can without spilling it all over putting filter back in, apply a thin coat of fresh oil to the rubber ring on the oil filter and screw it back on the engine hand tight (do not tighten using a wrench). Put drain plug back in. Fill engine back up with oil. Replace oil cap> Done.

Hi i would just like to know what oil i can use in my 1989 toyota surf its a turbo diesel the manual says to use a sae 20w/40 cd or better but when i went to buy oil they sold me a 15w -40 api ch-4 is this...

Hi Sarah,

The 15W-40 apiCH-4 oil will be fine for your 4Runner. It is "better", and here is why....

Your new oil being "ch" grade vs "cd" meets the qualification of "better" grade oil. Oil detergents are constantly being modified and as the letters climb alphabetically, each higher letter means that the oil exceeds the requirements of the grade before it. The "-4" is a designation I do not recognize, so I have some more reading to do. It may just mean that you bought a 4 quart (or liter) container or package, but no matter what it represents, this oil is still better.
The "15W-40" designation means that at 0 degrees F or below, the oil behaves as if it is 15 weight oil, and at operating temperatures, it acts like 40 weight oil. This formulation is designed to make cold weather starting easier, since the oil will be "thinner". Since your new oil is still rated as 40 weight at operating temperatures, just like the manual specifies, You should do fine with it.
Make sure you check your oil level once a week, since your 4Runner has a few years on it, it may be "burning" more oil from normal engine wear.
It is very important to change your oil regularly, especially with a diesel engine. The oil picks up allot of contaminants and it gets dirty very fast in a diesel. Follow the oil change schedule in your manual, and you will be good2go!
Thank You for using FixYa!

Need grade / type and weight of oil for 1988 toyota pickup

Any oil with a API and SAE rating are in good standing. As far as weight of the oil, depending on mileage and what part of the world you are in, 10w 30 or 10w 40 will work great.

WHA KIND OF OIL GOES IN THE DIFERENTIAL FOR A 2006 TUNDRA PICK UP 6 CIL

Fist things first if it is a differential there are 2 grades if you are in cold weather you nead a lighter oil (85-120W) if you are in a hotter climate (98- 168W) this is like this cause of the weight of the oil when in use under climate change a tropical area needs a thicker oil do to the heat so it can maintain viscosity under heat .

What weight oil should I use in my 1995 Toyota 4Runner V6? I live in a tropical climate year round, avg. temp 80-90, if that makes a difference.

The proper oil for your Toyota is API 'SG' or 'SH" 10 w 30. And yes, the climate does make a difference it the oil weight. If you drove it where the temp was 50degrees or lower, it would require 5 w 30.

Oil light on toyota previa

have the oil pressure checked ... if you are not using too low a viscositity of oil (the weight) you might be able to use a thicker weight oil to raise the pressure.

Oil Change

Drain engine oil and replace oil filter(your local automotive store will have a book telling you what oil filter you need to buy). You've probably been using a multi-grade 10-30 or 10-40 weight oil. Or a straight 30 weight oil. Regardless, replace that oil with one grade heavier, single-weight of oil. During warm months, use 40 weight; in the winter (depending on how far the mercury dips in your part of the country) use 20 or 30 weight. Slightly thicker oil won't hurt that worn engine, and if your battery is good, it'll turn over fast.
