Ok. ive posted about my 93 buick park ave dieing when i stop . i was told brake booster which made sence but didnt work.now what uggg!. someone told me harmonic balancer. thoughts?

If that happens after you drove at speeds over 60km/h, there is a good chance that the lock up torque converter of your transmission does not disengage; to test that, drive the car at normal highway speed for a little while and put the gear selector in NEUTRAL before you stop. If the engine keeps on running, there's your problem

Crank sensor, ignition module or fuel problem. Crank is under the harmonic balance and the module is under the coils packs , check fuel pressure and fuse.

Loud Knocking noise coming from engine

Most likely the engine harmonic balancer on the front of the crankshaft is coming apart. This is a fairly common issue.

Harmonic balancer

remover the serpentine belt. Remove the water pump noting were each bolt came from for they are different in length. remove any hoses attach if there. Some models have hoses attached. . Use a gear puller to remove the harmonic balancer which can be rented at most auto parts stores. Gently pry the cover off

What drives the oil pump on a '97 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1L V6?

I don't think you can damage the oil pump gear when torquing the harmonic balancer. Oil Pump Removal & Installation 3.1L & 3.4L Engine To Remove:
  1. Remove the oil pan.
  2. Remove the oil pump.
  3. Remove the drive shaft extension.

To Install:
  1. Install the oil pump.
  2. Install the drive shaft extension.
  3. Engage the drive shaft extension into the drive gear.
  4. Install the pump to the rear bearing cap. Tighten the bolt to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
  5. Install the oil pan.
3.8L Engine NOTE: The oil pump on the 3.8L engine is serviced as part of the engine front cover.
  1. Remove the following:
    • Engine front cover.
    • Oil pump cover screws.
    • Oil pump cover.
    • Oil pump gear set.

To Install:
  1. Lubricate the oil pump gear set with petroleum jelly.
  2. Install the oil pump gear set.
  3. Pack the oil pump gears with petroleum jelly.
  4. Install the oil pump cover.
  5. Install the oil pump cover screws. Tighten the screws to 98 in lbs (11 Nm)
  6. Install the engine front cover. NOTE: Do not run the engine until the oil pressure is tested. Running the engine without measurable oil pressure will cause extensive damage.
  7. Inspect the oil pressure.
  8. Inspect for leaks.

HARMONIC BALANCER

I have a '94 Tempo, it had a "ticking" sound. It was the "harmonic balancer" (crankshaft pulley) a local mechanic changed it for $60, the part cost me $120 (I work for a Ford dealership) $180 without employee discount. you can get one for much less at a junkyard if you can find one. Good luck, Sean

1993 Geo Prizm Lsi Harmonic Balancer

Yes a harmanic balancer from tha corolla is the same thing. I had to do the same thing with my 95 geo. It works out to be a lot cheaper buying for a toyota than a geo.
