Have it checked by a local mechanic or consilt your dealer on the cost of the switch and DIY; be prepared for sticker shock; dealers are expensive

Suzuki grand vitara 2003 4wd light keeps coming on and off while driving in 2wd and makes clunking noise

ok its not fibbing, the 4wd is engaging while it should not.

the answer is in the book. the FSM
and at alldata dot com.
as a rule with suz, cars, is that early years.
the light is before the fact and later years after the fact.
but dont matter here, due to its in 4wd.
and will windup on pavement (are you on that or dirt.?)
do not drive a car with stuck 4wd (part time 4wd is not AWD)
its a danger to you and all others on the road.

On my GV. it works like this, and 04, , I have all the books on muy car, so i can DIY . at any time.
fixing cars is complex an wiring blind is dangerous to you and the drive line.

volume1 chapter 3B3.
the ECU sees 4wd and glows the light .
the ECU gets this fact from the 4wd small air pump.
this year, uses a front axle module
this model is an air pump
this #2 module has and air presure switch
so bingo lamp on means the air pump is running. (maybe)

so either that air switch is fibbing, its not you feel 4wd engaged.
or the 4wd command switch is stuck closed. bingo.
this switch closes (or breaks) and tells ECU to engage
4wd, the ECU then starts the air pump then the pump runs
and the air pressure acutaly (vac actuators) move the front
axle to 4wd axle lock mode.

that is the whole deal.
a volt meter at the switch, teminal to ground read
black-org wire
12v ,not 4wd.
0v , engage 4wd, (move the lever key on, and see it toggle.
0v, 12v, 0v ,12v, the sure sign of a good switch.

Have 2005 chevy silverado stuck in 4wd-lo will not shift to 2wd all lights are out checked fuses are fine

If all the lights are out then the 4wd switch is bad but,if it won't come out of 4wd-low then the 4wd actuator is bad or stuck. The 4wd actuator is what engages the differential from 2wd to 4wd.HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

I recently shifted into 4WD, then back to 2WD. My 4WD light will not go off. I don't believe it is stuck in 4WD (No grabbing of front tires on dry pavement). Transfer case is full. Switch appears to be...

There is a switch that when triggered will illuminate the 4wd light. That switch is stuck in the on position. Check the transmission linkage that is attached to the 4wd. There are not many switches, so it should not be hard to find. It is probably just dirty and has gotten stuck. Use some wd40 to get it working again, and worst case scenario, you will have to replace it.

98 blazer stuck in 4wd lo. Before, i could never get it in 4wd, now that its in 4wd its stuck. I had it at the local shop that replaced every mechanical part it could be, and that didnt fix it. So, they...

I would be looking at the transfer case and more specifically, the motor that engages it. You (or the shop that has done all this work without fixing the problem) should remove the motor from the transfer case and have another person engage the 4x4 to see if the motor is working or not. If it isn't, then check for power to the wires, check/replace motor. If the motor works, then your problem is most likely inside the transfer case itself, which can be pretty complex. Most people just replace the entire unit rather than attempting to repair them. I hope this helps, and good luck.

Transfercase problem it is stuck in 4x4 low canot put it back in 2high connections look good

Try putting the transmission in neutral first then shift the 4wd switch to 4 hi.then try shifting normally. If the light on the 4wd is flashing there is a code in the 4wd system and you will need to get the code.Sometimes the encoder motor will gets week and will not be able to switch gears.

91 trooper stuck in neutral

possible range selection detent switch not working causing to get stuck some times in one range only and wont shift to other range 4wd light in dash just keeps flashing for about 10 seconds then goes to previous state this then can jam up 2wd 4wd lever that you then cannot move.
there are 3 switches 2 on trans/transferr case, 1 on front LH diff axle tube actuator (shift on fly). can cause damge to the electric actuator then on transferr case.
suggest you get a dealer to look at or some one that knows this system. is also vaccum operated on front diff shift on fly unit and there were 2 different systems fitted to these vehicles push button 4wd on dash and lever next to gear lever which i take is yours

Isuzu rodeo sport 4wd, stuck in 4wd

Don't know if this will help with your exact problem, but I can share with you how I have "fixed" this.

If the 4WD indicator is flashing, then it means the 4WD select switch is working but the 4wd "clutch" hasn't released. Backing the vehicle up slowly, or sometimes just switching into reverse with the 4WD switch in the 2WD position is usually enough to release the 4WD and the 4WD indicator should go off. It after all this, the indicator still does not go off, it could be some issue with the electric 4WD clutch not releasing.
You should be able to tell if the 4WD drive is still engaged by driving slowly in a circle. On drive pavement, the front wheels will "hop" around. Don't do this too fast or too often on drive pavement, since the part time 4WD was not meant for this. The front wheels have to be able to slip in relation to each other, when in 4WD.

Hope this helps and wish you well in your troubleshooting.

The brakelight activation switch on top of brake peddle had come loose, not allowing lights to come on and affecting circuit to 4wd selection switch. I fixed the brake peddle switch and it solved the problem.
