Question about Mitsubishi Pickup
If its black smoke thats running rich , alot of extra fuel. I do go back to the recent repairs, noise and timing issues. I reviewed a manual I have for my Montero (1990) with a 3.0 V6 it does though show the 2.4 liter and 2.6 liter engine for her in the states (the pick-up known as the Mighty Max) It would appear your valve lifters could be either maual adjust or automatic. Either way my thoughts, for the noise, do go to the lifters being out of adjust giving too much clearance and clanking about in the top of the engine. If they are this far out this could interfer with the running of the engine too.. as in the valves are not opening properly. I'd check these. If they are manual check all of the clearances. If they are automatic I'd insure they're full of oil. You can remove them and place them in a cup of oil to manually fill them. This may be case in why your having to play with the engines timing. Please let me know what you find or what your thoughts are. I have a manual so I may be able to assit.
