To have the memory retained you need to be fast about replacing the battery which simply means you need an helping hand. Within seconds depending on how fast you are.

There is no way to change the battery without loosing memory I used to think.

Good luck.

How I change the battery

What is year--make--model? You can't get the battery in or out? Also, with some vehicles, you may be ahead to use a memory saver that plugs into cigar lighter or power outlet, to help keep some memory systems alive if you have to disconnect battery.

Some systems if they lose memory it can cause problems.

If I replace my own battery in a 2006 Honda Accord. Is there any programming that gets lost and needs to be redone?

Get a memory saver from walmart for a few dollars or so. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and will prevent memory loss from changing the battery which will otherwise erase the radio codes and render the radio disabled for anti-theft reasons.

If your battery does die, and goes below a certain voltage, then go to the honda.com website and look under the 'owner's' section and follow the procedure for entering the radio code after you have supplied the website with the information from the owner of the vehicle.

Good luck on changing your battery without losing electronic device memory.

I am going to change the battery in 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Will the electronic setting currently on the car memory remain?

Hi, im afraid not as soon as you take the battery off the vehicle you will lose all of this, also when you refit the battery you will be asked for the security code for the stereo and if you dont have it then thats means a trip to the main dealers to get the code from them.

you can buy a device that plugs into the cigarette lighter and this allows you to take the battery off without losing all this info as it gives the car enough power to keep thing as they are, but you would need to shop around to do this.

isnt their anyway you can charge the battery whilst its still on the vehicle, it will charge with no problems still connected and it wont do any harm as long as you get the terminals the right way round.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Yes you will. There's a plug you can buy at an auto parts place you will also need a 9 volt battery, that will save your memory, fit's in the cigarette lighter make sure your lighter plug works.just plug in to lighter will save memory while to switch battery out.

How do I change the battery in my 2002 Jetta TDI without losing all electronic settings?

Losing all electronic settings like what? You probably won't lose them if you don't take an hour replacing a battery. The only problem I've had with replacing batteries is that the clock resets on most cars, don't be lazy, set it again.

Need an answer on the proper procedure for changing the battery on a 2002 Lexus LS430 so as not to lose any electronic data.

go buy a memory saver, (available at many locations that sell tools) plug it into the wall and then to the cig lighter/power port and then proceed to change battery as normal. once the new battery is in you can unplug the car. defer to any directions that come with your memory saver over mine since they are all different.

Replacement of battery 1997 acura cl. Will I lose any radio codes? Best way to change out battery?

There is a product you can purchase that plugs into your cigarette lighter which you attach a 9 volt battery to that will save your car's memory while you change your battery. Not only radio codes, but all on board car computer codes. It will run you about 10 bucks. Here's an example
