Why do you need to turn it? You need to pull it off with a puller.

Oil leak around harmonic balancer

probably the crank seal that the balancer runs against to keep the oil in the motor. you will have to pull the balancer off then pry the seal out and tap the new one into the timing cover. take a look to make sure as it could be the oil pan gasket. clean area and run car until you see oil coming out.

How do you replace front crank seal on 02 avalanche

The front crank seal is behind the oil pump on the LS series motors. There is also a seal at the crankshaft and harmonic balancer on the front timing cover. This is typical leak area. You can carefully remove the harmonic balancer with a puller, replace the timing cover seal and reinstall. Make sure not to pinch the seal lip You will have to have a special tool in order to re-install the balancer, which is extra long to squeeze it on the tapered shaft. I do not think the other crank seal is an issue since it drains to the pan behind the oil pump.

I have an 2006 dodge stratus.im changeing the front crank seal.do I have to pull the engine out to remove the harmonic balancer?

You should be able to get to the harmonic balancer while it's in the car. Remove right tire( use jack stands to hold the car up- not a jack). remove the inner splash guide and the balancer will be exposed. Using 3 jaw puller to remove harmonic balancer

98 honda accord leaking oil from under horminic balancer it has 250 000 miles and has lot of blow by if i change seal or gasket will it still leak

It should stop leaking if you replace the front harmonic balancer oil seal. With the amount of mileage you have on your car, that seal definitely needs to be changed.

Oil leak

It is possible on these engines. If the seal becomes hardened, it can begin to wear into the harmonic balancer. It is best to replace the seal and they also sell a kit that sleeves the harmonic balancer and helps to seal any leaks. let me know if any instructions are needed.

Front crankshaft seal, 1989 hilux

Hello,

Yes, it's possible to change the seal after removing the balancer.
If the balancer shows signs of scratching, wear at the place of the seal, change that part too!

To remove the old seal, drill 2 small opposite holes in the seal flange ( there is metal in it ).
Screw 2 (parker) screws in the holes, so you can pull the seal out gently.
Grease the new seals' inner race, and put some sealant paste to the external race.
Push it back in place with a wooden piece ( drill a hole in the center for the crankshaft end )
Grease the outher race of the balancer. This will help the seal come gently into place.

Good luck!
