Go get a repair manual to do this job. How this belt gets put on decides whether or not your car ever runs again. Do yourself a favor and buy the manual for your vehical about $20 at auto zone.

make sure that nothing is stuck inside the belt retracter,if not then i would replace it,you cant open it up or it might not work properly in a crash, try pulling it lightly a few times to see if it frees up.

Brake lights stopped working 1998 mustang

Fuse panel is under the dash also as I have found with my own graceful daughter, there is a brake light switch that connects to the brake pedal itself. It is hard to get to and even harder to see but a lot of times these switches get bumped and they can not make connection when the brake pedal is depressed. Hope this helps

1998 2D Coupe(Automatic) O/D blinks, catch when gears change

When was the last time the Transmission Fluid and Filter were changed? More than 35,000 miles = Fluid and Filter change.
Is there any leaks what so ever? This will affect shifting.
Have the Transmission Sensors been removed, cleaned/inspected and reinstalled? These Sensors are "magnets" and catch little metal particles that inhibit their functions, including shifting.
What is the condition and level of the Transmission Fluid. Make sure you smell the Fluid. If it smells burnt, then change it immediately. Make sure you check the level when the engine is at normal temperature and while the engine is running, with the gear in Park or Neutral (with the Parking Brake ON!).
Does this Transmission have a Solenoid (electronic shifting)? If so have you checked the electronic connections for corrosion or oxidation?
Don't spend $2,000 (or more) dollars when the rest of these combined cost less than $200 dollars!
Let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions. Feel free to contact me at FixYa.com!
