Could be MAF mass air flow sensor or your MAP sensor manifold absolute pressure. check for a cracked or worn hose going to the Map i had found a crack in mine one time. if its the MAF just see if you disconnect it and if the trouble stays the same then thats probably the problem..they should have been able to tell you what the code it said...was it calling out for? Some auto stores will lone this tool out as long as you hand them your drivers licence..but dont expect them all to do this.

I have the same problem with my ZX2. First you have to find out what engine you have to find out what emission control system you have. if you have a ERG valve clean it and your throttle body. Throttle body cleaner is under 10 bucks at autozone. If you don't have an ERG valve you might need a new idle air control it is 100 bucks at autozone and on the ztec engine it is bolted underneath the throttle body. you should also clean your mass air flow sensor which is located in your air cleaner right behind your air filter, after all of that check all your vacuum lines for leaks and if that does not fix it you might need a new PCV valve this one is pretty cheap about 5 dollars.

Erg flow insufficient

  • The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
  • There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
  • The EGR valve is faulty
  • The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
It is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
  • Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
  • Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
  • Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
  • Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
  • Replace the EGR valve
The EGR valve is located in the engine compartment. Its should look this

Service engine light is on the code comes up erg insuficiant flow

That would be EGR. (Exhaust Gas Recirc). It is the diaphram valve that allows exhaust gases back into the intake to be reburned. Follow the small metal tube from your exhaust manifold(s) - they will lead to a flat, circular piece. that's the EGR valve. Some (not me) have had luck simply cleaning it - I always buy a new one. (not too expensive). But before you do that, make sure it's not just the vacuum line that is assigned to operate it. If that has a leak, it won't open either.

97 Ford Contour GL 2.5 L V6. Stalling out. Auto

They are not only for improving milleage, but play a crusual key for ECM to give out how much fuel to mix with air to have proper combustion hence not stalling when accelerated. But Oxygen sensors are expensive and even you have them replaced , this is not going to solve your problem since gum has built up at your throttle valve over the years. Have another shop to clean your throttle body first. Make an appointment so you can be there to see how dirty the throttle body is and also to make sure they actually take out the part to clean, not just spraying cleaner to the Air mass flow flap valve. After the throttle body cleaned, take off the battery cables for 30 minutes to reset the ECM to its default state so it doesn't use data from your current state. You will see an improvement. Afterward, the problem is still existing then Have Auto Zone store diagnose free for O2 problem before replacing them. Cheers.

2000Gran cherokee engine lite 1494 cod leak detection pump pressure switch or mechaical fault location of presure switch

The quick fix is to clean and reconnect all the electrical connector to the engine.

Pay close attention to the EGR lift sensor and the purge valve connector on the driver side fender.

I recommend CRC Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner (at major auto part store) or electrical parts cleaner (at Radio Shack).

After the cleaning then clear the code.

Fill up a full tank of Chevron to clean out the injectors.

If the same code returns then you will spend time on the EGR valve.

Carbon will built up over time and it will block the movement of the EGR valve and the EGR air passage.

Order a EGR base gasket before you start the job.

The easy route is to order a new EGR valve, but it can be clean if you have time. The air tube is a tough on. A vacuum clean can help to speed up the process.

After you put the valve and sensor then do a code reset.

This should fix you P1494 code problem.

Erg valve sticking

ERG or EGR valve?. well if you dont mind the check light coming on and the engine to run like **** in the future, you might want to change it, espcially if you live in an emission state, they wont pass you part if failling.

Blocked Passage on ERG System, or Failed ERG Valve, or ERG solenoid Faulty

Very common on Ford engines with EGR codes is the tube inside the intake manifold that takes unburned exhaust gasses and recirculates them back into the engine for reburning, the tube becomes restricted from hydrocarbons and just plugs up.The intake manifold and tube has to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

What feels like a slight miss when you put a load on the engine...2.3L

it will not be egr valve ,check the timing of the engine first and eliminate this then make sure you have used the correct plugs then start looking at, oxygen sensor , air flow meter but check timing first

clean and recharge your cold air filter, if you never had it cleaned, you can buy the recharge kit for your cold air filter, follow the instructions, if that doesn't work check your mass air flow sensor, have your mechanic clean it and test it.
