Question about 2002 Audi A4

1 Answer

I have been given contradictory information; (a) one is that when one open the oil filler cap of a diesel engine running hot, no smoke of ant kind should come out of it and (b) another said this is quite common with diesel and so long as one is not losing oil or water, there is absolutely nothing wrong. Who is correct?

white smoke out the tailpipe and the smell of anti-freeze in the exhaust gas. an engine that over heats either only at highway speeds or town driving, when all other things like, rad cooling fan working properly, thermostat is working properly, no external coolant leaks. the spark plugs may show signs of coolant on them. just some things that are indicators.

There is smoke coming out of the breather and oil filler, what is the problem?

You need to get the compression checked, there is oil getting into the cylinder, bad rings, valves, valve guides and valve seals can cause this....

Bmw 318i oil leak

make sure that the filler cap seal is in place and not gone hard over time also has the rocker cover been off at some stage if it has check that the gasket has not moved the other thing to look out for is that the PCV (breather )valve is in good working order if it is damaged the sump compression will rise and push oil out

I drive an 2005 F-350 with a 6.0 diesel. I noticed a whining noise a few days ago that would come and go. on monday the noise came back with a loss of power, boost gauge jumping around, overheated and lost...

Did it overheat then loose the coolant or did it loose the coolant and then overheat? Are you getting any codes? 1) It could be that the EGR valve has stuck closed or the exhaust port to it is choked with carbon - diesels are prone to this. With a closed off EGR the engine will run very hot as no cooling exhaust is being added to the intake charge. 2) Just to rule out a gasket failure start the engine with the coolant filler cap removed. Does the coolant appear agitated? are there bubbles being forced out? Now check the underside of the oil filler cap and look for any mayonnaise build up....if there is a leak into one of the cylinders there may also be one into the oil passageways.

Have Mazda bravo B2600 4WD ,has white smoke & oil from exhaust. Running rough as if on 3 cylinder

You dont say weather its a petrol or diesel engine as there a slight differance in the answer and if a turbo on a diesel thats even more of a differance, but taking it a petrol .
Well to start with the white smoke Isent smoke its water and after going through the engine it turns into Steam and thats what you see..
Running on 3 clyinders is caused through 1 cylinder isent working as a engine should and has a bad valve or a broken piston ring or more and even a cracked head and gasket letting the water through,,,also the broken ring works like a oil pump as if not firing given you power then it works like a oil pump and pumps it into the cylinder that dosent work only pumping oil into the hot exhaust system while running.CAUSING SMOKE
And if a turbo then could be the turbo bearings worn and pushing oil into the engine and still doing the same as before.
Let me know how you get on. RON

Its blowing oil out of the oil cap why would this be ?? also i bit of white smoke then came out the back

The oil level may be too high.
Is the filler cap tight?
blow-by in the cylinder piston rign area. A wet test of engine compression will detect this.
A bad had gasket. Engine will be over heating as water is being used up during combustion.
Bad head gasket. Could explain white smoke in exhaust.

If the engine is overheating I would be suspecting a problem in the head area.

Good Luck. SnugglePants
