Question about 1995 Geo Prizm

1 Answer

Ac compressor on 1995 geo prizm has locked up, i dont think this a regular ac lockup when you put too much coolant in it. there is a black soild material that has locked it frozen. the black material is coming through the thin gap between the clutch and the pully...........my wife was driving it and she called me saying that the car keeps cutting off. she was at work so i drove up and check it out and the ac pully was locked shut. i was like yah a easy fix but no ac, i just cut the ac belt..............im thinking maybe the clutch melted or something. because it still has coolant in it. anybody has any ideas...will appreciate it

yah, i took the compressor off, and it looks like the coil was melted. the clutch, pully, coil, bearing was all melted together. i wasnt able to get to the cotter pens so i use a pully puller to get it off. it was on real good. but the compressor itself is fine, just need to get a new clutch kit, should be good as new.

Does a 1993 geo prizm 1.8L lsi have two temp sensors?

buy the manual. and RTM,
and yes, Air , water, and on a stock car up to 3 coolant sensors.
The ECT runs the ECU. tells ECU coolant temp.
my guess is the coolant gage is dead? RTM
on most 93 car, the Guage has its own sensor, (isolated)

joint venture, GM/toyota with 3 engine used.
1.8L or 1.6L
toy engine, 4aFE, 7AFE or 4AG

Where is the fuel rail located on a 1995 geo prizm ?

ok a joke, cant resist: sorry,,,, keep a smile!
under the hood?
above the 4 injectors? LOL im still joking but is true.
My best PRIZM post yet (working up to better soon)
now the straight skinny? no joking..
this Toyota in sheep's clothing has more than one engine option.
infact 2, (wiki, the Geo prizm and see that ) see gen 2.
the one time, there is no rail is if the car has TBI
throttle body injection, (ours is not)
if in USA and not Canada.? you never said,
EPA force (USA) the 1.8L the 7A-FE (toy engine)
I think this is a 4 injector MPI engine. Not TBI, see link.

I do not know what GM (Geo) changed on that 7A motor.
about 1995 all TBI was banned here. (dirty smog)
(did geo run custom ECU's , i think not, but may run custom tuning "ecu tables") i metion all this for when buying used parts.
Toy<>Geo
so how to tell?
open hood, see intake manifold
see those runners, see them go to the head?
just before those runners contact the head, are INJECTORS x4
and above the injectors is the common rail.

if Geo works out like most of my experience with them.
they used all the toy parts, engine and EFI. and ECU.
so studying this would help.

wiki quote.
In the United States, the 7A-FE's most common application was in the 1993-1997 Corolla (7th generation).

google image seach nets.
http://www.toyoland.com/images/7A-FE.gif

see right view> see upper left side of engine
see that black air path. just end of tunnel, is the injector x4
and rail above that.
alldata dot com has all this.
free , try here.
heck even post. Gen2 GEO = Gen 7 toy

Why does my 1994 geo prizm tend to almost overheat wih a/c on?

There are two possiblities that come to mind. Low coolant level with a very big air bubble may not permit proper cooling (too much air in the cooling system so add more liquid) or the second thing could be that the thermostat is not the proper rating for your gauge to remain below the middle level. You should try replacing the thermostat with a 180 degree thermostat (yes again and make sure orientation of the thermostat is correct... not upside down) and if the NEW thermostat is "good" it will stay near the middle regardless of whether the AC is on or not. You should also carefully check for coolant leaks or a reservoir tank crack, a loose fitting radiator cap with a worn o-ring or anything that would keep the system from being pressurized since pressure and glycol are what prevents the water from boiling in the cooling system.
