Pos valve stem seals or siezed piston rings-has the engine been overheated-remove plugs and check for deposits from oil burning. You can try a product from GM called CLEENS with the the plugs out spay this cleener into cyls and leave over night(put lots into cyls),then blow out cyls and put plugs back in then change oil then see how much it smoke after running on hway for a while(will smoke untill the cleaner burns off)

Your valve seals are worn or guides on the head. wha you need to do is take a compression test of each cilynder and when you are doing that check each spark plug for signs of oil wich means that is the cylinder with the problem so its either going to be the head or the piston rings

Keep hearing ticking sound from engine change oil and went away but coming back

Not really uncommon for a higher mileage engine. As long as its just a tick no big deal.. If you rev it up a bit and it goes away then its a hydraulic lifter. The fresh oil is a bit thicker and keeps the lifter pumped up better. You could go to a heaver weight oil and it would help but really its nothing to worry about.

Car hesitates and sputters

It seems like you have a vacuum leak in a hose some where. Check under the hood for any rubber hoses that are dry-rotted, cracks, or sharp bends in any of them.

My oil is burning will i pass inspection in pa

On the 2.0 l engines, oil burning is common, and quick easy solution I've found is to run "5 minute oil flush" available at any parts store. follow the directions and 8-10 times the carbon between the piston rings and sludge that build up in the valvetrain (a common problem for all OHC Dodge engines) goes away. be sure to use a high quality filter and a high mileage formula 10w30 motor oil like Valvoline or Pennzoil.

Car idles low then dies.

For you to figure out if the spark plug fires, you need to pull it out one by one while running. Make sure that you are wearing protective gloves for this one. Normally for spark plug issues the idle will be sort of erratic and fells as if the revs is slow to go up when teh gas is stepped on. For the oil, check for leaks around the engine and smoke at the exhaust. Oil may enter the combustion chamber and burn causing a dark or bluish smoke. Also check the coolant in your radiator if oil gets in. For these problems you need to replace some oil seals and some oil ring. The low idle can be caused by faulty wiring since you have an EFI engine. Check the connections if they are loose. Also check the fast idle control valve if you can adjust the idle or it may need cleaning

2002 doge neon r/t revs itself when i start it

The most common source of that problem is a sticking idle control motor. As a first step, purchase a new gasket and/or O-ring for the idle control motor. Remove the motor and clean it out using aerosol carburetor cleaner. If the idle control motor was sticking, that should cure it. It the fix only lasts temporarily, you need to replace the idle control motor. This is a common problem with vehicles with over 80,000 miles on them.

Oil pressure light on at idle

Don't delay on this. Take the vehicle in and have the oil pressure sensor checked. It could be just the sensor or it could be something more serious. A drop in oil pressure could lead to catastrophic engine failure.

I have a 1997 Dodge Neon. My check engine light has been on for a while and I have a small oil leak. Last night I was driving the car and the temperature gauge went all the way to high and the bell...

The 1995-1999 Neons are notorious for having faulty head gaskets. This sounds like what you're experiencing. There is coolant leaking internally somewhere, and burning in the engine.

By any chance, is the smoke coming from the back or side of the driver's side of the engine? This seems to be the trouble spot.

If you've been driving with a bad head gasket seal for a while, there's a chance you could have warped or even cracked the head. I would recommend taking it in because this is a pretty major repair... unless you feel like taking the engine apart yourself.

I am having trouble with my speedometer not working occasionally and now my seat belt light is coming on sometimes too. Is this the instrument panel cluster? Or something else? 1998 Dodge Neon. Backstory is as follows: -We take very good care of it and have one dedicated mechanic. -It has only had two owners; my parents and I. -We replaced the battery 2 months ago. -Mechanic checked to make sure the speedometer sensor was working. -We have had issues with the radio for years where it will randomly turn on and off, typically brought on by a stuffed trunk OR wet weather. -The speedometer works until we hit a bump and then the needle flies up and down or sometimes just stops working all together. -Mechanic has made mention of there being some Chrysler specific battery cable that is a smaller side cable and it is not in good condition. -Currently, my problem is that I can't find an old 1998 Dodge Neon in the salvage yard because yards are doing a lot of 2002 and newer vehicles and automatically crushing the others. The meat and potatoes of my question is what direction do I go in? And what of these symptoms ties to each other? And will adding new solder to the points on the panel fix it or is it something else? I'm trying to find least expensive to most expensive options and I'm rather handy but can't drop an engine or transmission or anything so keep this in mind. My handiness ends at resoldering the pins BUT I do have a mechanic I trust, but I fear that maybe I'm not combining symptoms properly. I have the money to repair an item I KNOW is wrong but not to chicken hunt around for problems.
