Rear end locked up

I have an 1989 1/2 ton Chevy Suburban. When I put it in "drive" it starts to move forward then the rear end locks up (The tires turn a 1/2 turn). I can put it in "reverse" and it works fine.

You will probably find damage in the differential. remove cover and inspect.on one of the bolts there should be a metal tag with numbers on it .dont lose. you will need to order gear set.

I have a 2005 ram 1500 4x4.when i put it four wheel drive high it feels like its in low and back tire on driver side skids

There's something seriously wrong in the transfer case or controls. It seems the rear driveshaft is locked up, and the front wheels are driving. The driver's side rear tire is skidding because it's trying to turn backward - rear passenger rear tire is going forward and rear differential has no option but to turn the driver tire in reverse (driveshaft locked). DON'T TRY TO DRIVE IT. Get it checked out and fixed.

My girlfriend has a 1999 f150 and recently it started making a scraping noise when you drive it sounds like its coming from the back of the truck. she called me today and said she started driving and it...

that is your rear end it will lock up on you especially on the freeway at speed you need to address this immediatly, these have a funky locking rear end, you can get an upgraded assembly for about 500 dollars plus installation

Rear drive shaft lock up doing 80mph on freeway.

disconnect rear drive shaft to see if tires move if not the rear end pinion gears might have a bad bearing causing the lock up.the fastest way to repair it is to replace gear box with good used one from a salvage yard.the reason I'm telling you this is because although your gear box might be repairable, it would have to be done by a professional and cost would be high.

Rear tire locking up on 1992 chevy k1500 4x4 seems like after u joints were installed on drive shaft rear tire locks up periodically truck will not move

thats serious... need to find out if its a brake problem or rear end , or trans problem. I would not think universal replacement would have anything to do with it, but thats strange.

You didn't say what the shop checked so I may be repeating something they already looked at. Check the brake caliper and I would also drain the old brake fluid and put in new fluid. You didn't mention if it was making any noise when this happens so I'll assume it's not a problem with your wheel bearings.

I had the same problem on my 2000 blazer, I peeled back the carpet and cut out a small hole near the mechanism and put a flat head screw driver in there and unlocked it manuallly
