Question about 2004 Kia Sedona

1 Answer

My kia sedona 2004 keeps intermitently losing power on acceleration when changing up gear and when just accelerating was on motorway tonite and was lucky it was quiet just managed to get ove on to layby within a few seconds of running on idle was fine and drove agin ok for about 10 miles then it did it again also the temp gage keeps going up but water not overheating and engine runs normal on idle no sputters or bangs or noises of any kind. I have a feeling this is an electrical fault because of the fact that the temp light is going up and down at random and the engine is not hot and the fan is kicking in ok . Has anyone had the same problem so i have some idea how i can fix this thanks mad maria

The temp sensor is sending the wrong information to the engine control module. It could just be a loose connection where it plugs into the wire harness or it might be a faulty temp sensor.

SOURCE: My '05 Kia Sorento is overheating during this this hot days!!!!

Check fluid levels, make sure radiator cap is on tight, checks hoses to assure all good. And keep in mind, although new thermostat, it could still be faulty. (not likely, but a thought).

Very poor acceleration through all gears

diesel pump might not be working right. Try and check fuel pressure. I dont know if its turbo but if the turbo is failing then you will loose power

I have a slight hesitation or skip during acceleration. Gears change smooth and correctly. But it even occurs when at a stop light with the brakes on.

Before we go too much further with this, stop at a Kia dealer & speak to the service advisor or manager about this symptom & tell them you've heard about a technical service bulletin about this issue, and see what their reply is. Something tells me i've been through this once before and there was a bulletin on it.
