1999 ford taurus se 3.0l

I have this car which i think it is the fuel pump. 7out 10 times when i turn the ignition on i hear the fuel pump so i know car will start. when i don't hear pump i know won't start. but once car starts it will run until you try to start again, could it be a relay or i heard it can be oil pressure switch. i scanned for codes clean. car is driving me crazy. what will be the cheapest working my way up in case this is a weird problem. changed fuel filter with new one. what will work with ignition switch on, on position towards fuel pump?

i switched the fuel pump relay with the ac clutch relay because they are the same. i took fuel pump fuse out & put back in. i went on a 1 month vacation & when i came back this problem started to happen. i have another car so i use this when i go from one point to another w/o shutting the engine off because don't want to get stuck outside of my home. u think it is lack of using it, it has 90000 miles on it. seems like the more i use it the better it gets.
could it be oil pressure switch?

i checked fuel pump pressure w/key on position i get 35-36 psi, when car is running i get 31-32. problem is i turn key on-off position i can hear pump, when i get to the 6 or 7 time i don;t hear pump. car will not start, but i keep doing the on-off position & when i hear pump i know car will start. i hate to spend money on pump if that is not the problem. i ran out of ideas, look at comment before this one

Your fuel pump is fitted in the fuel tank and its the thing you have to change so you either remove it and replace it with a new one as the pumps in the tanks do give problems so remove and replace OR take to your garage and ask them to do it foe you..
And alls done..

I would remove the fuel pump fuse and then insert it again making sure it is tight. Check wiring at fuel pump if you can get to it. I would then replace the fuel pump relay. The fact that you do not hear the fuel pump run 100% of the time tells you there is a problem with power to the pump. The fuel pump can be failing as the car is 10 years old. In rare cases this can be a problem with the ECU. I suspect the relay is sticking.

I do not think the oil pressure switch has anything to do with it. But I would replace it if it is not functioning properly. Driving it or not should have no effect. What I think is going on is that the fuel pump is failing. I hesitate to recommend you replace it due to the cost involved. You could have a fuel pressure test run to see if the pump is still strong. I suspect you will find it is weak. It is pumping but not very well. It will eventually fail. You have done just about all you can do short of replacing the pump. I still go back to the pump not working 100% of the time. This is very telling. I really think your fuel pump is failing.

I reset the button for the fuel pump on my 1999 Ford Taurus and the car still will not fire. Where is the fuse for the fuel pump located and size

To check to see if your fuel pump is working have someone run the ignition key while you listen at the fuel tank of your car, remove your fuel cap put your ear next tank hole and then have your helper turn car on but just so the dash lights up not to start the car.You should hear the fuel pump actuate or hum for a second or two,and if you don"t hear a hum then move to the fuses and if they are good move to your fuel injectors then check your plugs wires and Cole pack. The fuel pump relay is in the fuse box under the hood of the Taurus next to the battery its a black box and is the main power distribution box for your car. The fuel pump fuse is number 10 (A) in the power distribution box. On a 1998,1999 you can swap the fuel pump relay (B) with the EEC power relay (C) to check to check fuel pump operation.the best way to check your car is to use a OBD 2 car reader.hope this helps but you can also buy a Chilton manual if your willing to get your hands dirty and have some mechanical ability you can save your self a lot of money.I believe the going rate for mechanics now is about $105 dollars an hour and thats here in WA.State.

1999 Ford Taurus SW SE DOHC- my car will not start. The engine tries to turn over but it will not catch. Last week we were able to get it to turn over by spraying starter fluid into the manifold, but...

Assuming the battery is good, you might need to replace the spark plugs. They will only last about 100,000 miles at best. You might also have a vacuum leak somewhere. If you can get to at least one spark plug and remove it, you can then see how bad it is worn out.
The other suggestion would be to see if fuel is coming out of the fuel pump at all. If so, then back to checking the plugs, If not, the fuel pump would be the next thing.
