Question about 1992 Honda Accord

Have a 1992 Honda Accord that has been sitting for 6 years. Drained tank and put in fresh gas. It tries to crank and has actually run for about 30 seconds with starting fluid sprayed. Any suggestions?

Hmmm maybe if u give it a bit of tlc change the fuel filter new plugs and leads and run and engien fulsh through the motor and then change oil and filter a get some injector cleaner through them or carbie cleaner and then if shes still failing to fire check the lines make make sure the lines arent clogged up i would blow them out just in case and if that dont work replace the pump but if u got plenty of fule getting up the lines and it still wont fire then go to the electric side of things make sure u got spark in the plugs if not then u will need to look at options like distrubiors or coil pac and realays fuses and stuff like that could be soo many options its just a simple matter of fuel plus spark the moter should therocially fire unless u got timing isses but then u get coughing and backfiren and stuff

Sounds as if you have a few pump problem. You might want to put your ear near the fuel tank under the rear of the car and have some one turn the key to the on position and see if you hear the humming of the fuel pump activating should last about five seconds.

Hope this helps, Allen

I have a 1991 Honda accord ex..it has been sitting for years now it wont start where should I start I was told that the gas turns to funk after sitting for a long time.

if it is posible for you to drain the the old gasoline out and refill the tank with fresh gasoline that would be great, but if you only have a1/4 tank and draining the tank is not posible fill your tank up with supreme gas not regular the better grade gas with the high octane will dilute the old gas and help burn off the gas when the car starts.if you have more then 1/2 a tank try to pump out the gas with a driil pump, you can buy these a your local hardware store insert hose in filler neck of the tank.you should also remove the spark plugs and with and oil can add 8 good pumps of the can of motor oil in the cylinders do not replace plugs **** with a freshly charged battery turn the engine over few time in 2 or 3 second intervals this will kleen any rust that would have built up on the cylinder walls and also lube up the cylinder wall so that at start up the cylinder wont be dry ,add a few more sqirts of oil between turnovers.Replace spark plug if old ones look bad put spark plug in and start her up its going to smoke a bit at firts **** it will stop after the oil that was put in the cylinders burns off,let the engine idle for 10-15 minutes before putting any strain on motor give it a chance to clean out cylinders burn a few tanks of gas and change gas filter it should be fine.

Car wont start

If it has been sitting for 3 years it could be a number of things. First thing to try is a good tune up (plugs, wires, oil change, air filter, and fuel filter). If the plugs have fouled out they are not getting enough spark to burn the fuel. Also if the fuel itself has turned, you should try to drain the tank, this is not feasible at times and can be substituted by adding as much fresh gas as possible and a can of Octane boost/ Gas drier. SeaFoam is what I would recommend (found at your local autoparts store. If you have over half a tank of gas that has been sitting that long, you will need to find a way to drain what is in it. There are a few tricks to doing this without dropping the gas tank or sucking it out with a garden hose. Try the tune up first though.

most likley the gas has not reached the carbs yet, try taking off the pipe to the carbs and """sucking the gas up to the cards,,,

1996 5 speed honda accord. sat for a year. put in new battery. everything lights up, but car wont start. never had previous problem.

Are you saying the car turns over (cranks) but it does not start? Or, the car is Not turning over?
If it is cranking over but not starting, and it ran fine before sitting for the year, it may be water/moisture in the gas. Try some dry gas, and/or Carb-fuel injection cleaner in your gas tank.

1992 Honda Accord will not pass emissions inspection

The EGR will not cause this issue, this sounds like the Catalytic Converter was not hot enough, another trick that worked for this kind of fail was a fresh oil change, make sure the engine is up to normal operating temp, which would be just short of 1/2 scale on the temp guage, if it runs cold replace the thermostat, I did smog tests for 30 years and these are the things I did to get cars like yours to pass given the test results you gave for the tailpipe.
