If the rad is cold the chances are the rad is plugged off. Kinda common actually. You can take a hose off the heater core and if coolant flows then its not the water pump and you have circulation.

My 01 cavalier overheats while the heat is running. the radiator is less than 1 yr old. The water pump and thermostat have been replaced as well. What else could the problem possibly be.

Car overheats new radiator 2 t stats diffrent eng new water pump, had same problem with first motor cust cooked first motor filled cooling system with radicat plus overheats sitting in shop heats up real...

Okay sounds like you have a clog within the system, first of all, drain the whole cooling system, run clean water thought the top of the radiator, look to see when the water comes out nice clear, replace the lower hose if you have a petcock close that, refill the top of the radiator, until it is full, start the engine, with engine running turn your heater, let the car warm a little, then reopen the petcock or loosen the lower hose and let the water draw out a little until is pouring out nice and fast, then re-close the petcock and stop the engine.
try and get 40% of the water out, and replace it with 50/50 antifreeze fill to the right point of the cars specs.

2001 Jeep Cold RAdiator

Does your temp gauge read normal? if it does then the thremostat is ok,but sadly the water pump is going bad this is typical of jeeps at an idle the heater cools off because the water pump fins are worn enough to not circulate through the heater core and when you step on the gas the increased rpm move the water fast enough to circulate through the heater,it is possible that the heater core is plugged but I doubt it as a plugged heater core would not get hot either it would be cold or just luke warm all the time.

2001 JEEP ..RADIATOR IS COLD

what is the water temp at the dash...leave the rad cap off until normal temp... might be an air lock. If the engine overheats fast and blows coolant out the filler then its a blocked radiator...why did you repace the thermostat

Water Pump

I would check the thermostat first; its the easiest to get to and usually the first to go. Unfortunatly if it is bad it usually takes the pump with it when it goes : ( My Fathers car is going through the same thing. But his pump is bad as well.
