SOURCE: heater core problem and replacement instructions

You can disconnect both hoses and blow compressed air through the one that stays cold, this should free it up then recommend a coolant flush.

I have no heater in my car.i have had the car for a year in a haft.it blowes cold air all the time cant turn it off.

Check the temperature of both heater hoses on the engine. If they are of different temperatures, either the water control valve is not letting water into the heater core or the core itself is plugged. If both hoses are the same temperature then the blend door inside the heater housing on the firewall isn't working.

Need instructions for replacing heater core

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

Looking for an updated repair manual for the heater core or diagram for self repairing? my heater core is acting up and have someone trying to fix it but unable to find an updated manual have the original...

A Haynes or Chilton manual should include the upgraded repair how tos. Or you could try alldatadiy. They carry recalls and TSB's for all vehicles but you may have to sign up to read them. It's about $30 for a year. Hope this helps.

Well the first thing is to forget what the manual says you need a threequrter air ratchet to take off the locker nut not a impact wrench. Put a block under the weels then put it in gear this well put presher on the flexplate and ceep the moter from turing over then take off the nut now you will need to go by the book when puting back togather.I would put a beed of hightem seller then put your seal in and let set for atleast 24 to 36 hours for best seal you can get.well I hope this will help good luck on your project.
