Fan switch not working

The automatic and manual systems are a little different. Both use a 40amp fuse number 47 for the blower motor and a 25amp fuse number 25 for the HVAC control. The automatic system uses a blower control processor instead of a resistor assembly. Your owners manual should list the location of the fuses.
You may need a shop manual to troubleshoot the system.

My Aveo starts up normally and slowly heats up to normal operating temp. But the cooling fan never turns on and eventually the temp guage climbs from the halfway mark to the top mark. I checked the fuses...

Most systems work this way: temp sensor on engine sends a signal to the computer which in turn sends signal to blower relay that then sends signal to the fan.
Any problem along the way, and the fan won't come on.

Chevy cavalier temp guage stopped working on instrument panel

if the wiring is good and there are no blown fuses, likely the gauge itself will have to be replaced

The heat come from the motor block. How long has it been sense you changed the theromistatic????? Does the car have a manual temp guage???? It it showing low temp????? The temp should be running up to normal, which should be about half way on the guage.
