The intake boot is the big rubber boot going from the air filter housing to the throttle body. there are lots of vacuum lines all over the engine usually running from the intake manifold in some fashion. they are black rubber or molded plastic

Sounds like some type of vacuum leak. I have seen either small vacuum hoses off the intake or an actual Intake Gasket leak... Best check out is a Smoke machine test hooked up to any vacuum hose.. if not available , spray areas of hoses / and around engine intake with some type of cheap spray Throttle Cleaner .. small bursts.. if you have a leak and it sucks in the vapor it will make the engine stall/die. That will give you general area to start looking ..

What is a vaccum leak on a 1999 buick regal

All engines have vacuum created in the intake manifold, because the pistons are pulling in air into the cylinders from the intake manifold, resulting in a pressure drop in the intake. A leak is caused when the intake manifold gasket is bad, or when a vacuum hose off the intake becomes disconnected or breaks. The hose will then **** extra air into the intake, causing a higher than normal idle, maybe a rough running condition, and can be identified by a slight whistling noise at the break or at the disconnected end of the vacuum hose.

One of two places the Coolant will escape from! Check all of ur hoses . For soft or swollen ! These engines are notorious for head problems!

MY SUZUKI GET TOO MUCH WHITE SMOKE,BUT I HAVE PUT ENGIN FLUSH, CHANGE THE OIL AND THE OIL FILTER,ADD ANTISMOKE TO FUEL BUT NO CHANGES PLEASE!!!

There has been an issue of Suzuki engines smoking due to the PCV. valve or the baffles under the valve cover. One method of curing this is to place an oil separator between the vacuum line from the intake and the PCV. This will make for the need to keep an eye on it as it will fill up with oil eventually thus negating the purpose of placing it there in the first place. I think the big fix would be to remove the valve cover and check the oil baffles and filter therein. The problem is that oil builds up at the location of the PCV and is getting sucked into the intake via the vacuum hose to the intake. The quick fix? unplug the PCV and plug up the vacuum hose to the intake. This will get you by until you can get it to a mechanic. Anyway, That what I know. hope it helps

99 expedition running lean and dying when at idle

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Look for obvious vacuum hoses broken, squished or off. Check at egr valve, dpfe sensor & solenoid. These are all common to go bad. If not obvious take carb cleaner with snorkel attached, spray intake manifold & hoses etc. If idle raises while spraying you located vacuum leak. The propelent in the can temporarily seals leak while its being sprayed. Be careful not to spray on wires or anywhere there is a spark.

is there a check engine light on? did you change the spark plug wires?
you may have a intake gasket leak or possibly a cracked intake manifold. there is a simple test to try to determine if there is a leak in the intake but it can be potentially hazzardous. with a can of carberator cleaner, spray around the intake gasket and manifold. if the engine revs up, there is a leak. you can also purchase a vacuum gauge and test the amount of vavuum the engine makes. typically 17-22 hg. connect the gauge to a main vacuum port such as the hose to the brake vacuum booster

sounds like a vacuum leak, any rubber hose or even the intake boot could have a tear or crack in it. lightly spray carb cleaner over isolated places, if you hit the place where it is leaking, the engine will slightly rev up. try to narrow down your leak this way

1999 Pontiac Grand Am with "lower intake leak"...What does this mean specifically? Would this mean the intake for the radiator, gasket, or valve?

Usually intake has to do with the induction system, as in intake manifold , The intake manifold can have several types of leaks, the intake can have a vacuum leak, oil leak, coolant leak or a combination of any of the before mentioned....hope this helps,

Sounds like an air leak somewhere after the air filter chamber. With engine idling spray some carb cleaner at different areas along the intake hose and the intake manifold, any place air can get in.If rpms change you have found leak.
